Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa Aso Sa 30 Me – Aso To’ona’i 5 Iuni
Samoan Language Week is Sunday 30 May – Saturday 5 June 2021
“Poupou le lotoifale, ola manuia le anofale”
Strengthen the posts of your house, for all to thrive
This is a beautiful Samoan proverb (Alagaupu) to kick start this wet and wild Wellington day and to acknowledge and celebrate le Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa (Samoan Language Week).
Alagaupu is the Samoan word for proverbs – wise sayings or expressions about life. This week our learners will be engaging in some activities to celebrate this.
We have noticed that our learners have mid-term-itis! They seem very tired and we have a lot of learners arriving to school late…this can mean that they miss important information to set them up for their day of learning. Approximately 80% of our learners who arrive at school record their reason as ‘slept in’. We all know how as adults we feel if we don’t have enough sleep and we are fully grown!
Tamariki 5-11 years old need 9-11 hours of sleep each night. These are some of the things that sleep enhances in our tamariki when they get lots of good sleep:
Promotes growth, Helps beat germs, Helps heart health, Increases tamariki attention span
Boosts learning, Reduces the risk of injury
Safe Online? Moving from ‘Fingers Crossed’, to Confidence.
A reminder to put Monday 28 June into your calendars. At 6:00-6:45pm all whanau are invited to come and listen to a presentation about 'Life online' and how you as whanau can support your tamariki to navigate this online space. This will be held in our kura library.
This event was cancelled last term…so please register your attendance by emailing
office@sfds.school.nz. If we don’t get a reasonable amount of attendees we will again have to cancel this event. So pop this date into your calendars and email as above. Let’s work together as a community to stay informed and connected.
Feel free to pop in for a coffee before school on Friday between 8am-9am in my office.
Have a wonderful week and stay warm.
Manuia le aso (Blessed day)

TOUCH REFEREES
Total Touch, who run the Touch league in terms 1 and 4, have sent the following message through about players becoming referees:
If you have any students who would like to join Total Touch as a referee at our junior modules, please ask them to send me an email - admin@totaltouch.org.nz. We are always in need of referees at all parks and offer training and a pathway to ensure they enjoy their experience and have the opportunities to take their refereeing further if they want to. Refereeing touch is a great way to improve self-confidence and communication skills - plus it is pretty fun and they get $5 a game. Our training will start in September.
