Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
St. Clare School Family Newsletter | 20 December 2018
All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be.
"In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things came to be through him,
and without him nothing came to be.
What came to be through him was life,
and this life was the light of the human race;
the light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome it."
~ John 1
Dear St. Clare School Families,
I've seen, read and heard this passage many times, but each time, something new is revealed to me. Once you understand and believe its message, it transforms you. I invite you to read it many times over: when you're happy, when you're sad, when you're tired, when you're lonely and when you feel fulfilled. Find a way for it to resonate for you.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR TALENTED CREW!
The students did an amazing job with their performances at Wednesday night's Christmas Program. A special thank you to Mr. Austin Kim who added flare to the already amazing 8th Grade number. More notably, we thank alum Emma Liang for stepping up to be our one-woman tech crew and to the parents who helped "stage" the sanctuary on the fly. To our amazing accompanists: Sr. Bette Gambonini, BVM; Andrew (7th) on the violin and Valentina (7th) on the ukulele; and Jordyn (8th) on the piano.
Kudos to all teachers and staff, especially to Miss Kim and Mrs. Dempsey. It was a great start to our Christmas season.
WISHING YOU A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A NEW YEAR FILLED WITH HOPE AND PEACE
The School will be closed starting Thursday, Dec. 20 at 1 P.M. and will reopen on Monday, January 7 at 7 A.M. for CKZ. The School Office will be closed, so any messages, payments or questions will need to wait until Monday, January 7. Our faculty and staff will make an effort to be unplugged during this time. Thank you for helping us achieve this goal.
WHILE YOU ARE AWAY
Our diocesan technology crew will be on site to install our new wireless network and VOIP phones. Thank you to your tremendous Jog-A-Thon response, we improving our safety protocols, our learning environment (no more interruptions from radio during class instruction time!) and the ability for our teachers to communicate across campus and with parents more efficiently and effectively.
At home, please continue the growth that the students have gained this past few months. Study after study has shown the direct correlation between reading and academic achievement. Provide students with opportunities to read at every turn. Practice critical analysis when watching a favorite TV show or Christmas movie by asking follow up questions and questions that dig more deeply. Have students create, innovate and explore the natural world. Keep some semblance of structure so that students do not experience a Christmas break slide. Most of all, observe them, affirm them and encourage them to be resilient and to keep trying. Failure is an option so long as they get back up and try again!
We will miss them and you tremendously over break. We will keep you in our prayers for safe travels, joyful reunions and lots of moments to enjoy the quiet of an over-scheduled life.
God's blessings during this Season. Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year ahead!

6th Grade Builds The Great Wall Of China
The 6th grade is a good group of builders who were creative and innovative in their designs. They did a nice job of collaboration and teamwork.
Yard Duty Saturday Work Day Volunteers, THANK YOU!
We want to extend our appreciation to parents, grandparents and family members who have made a commitment to serve as yard supervisors and/or be a part of the Saturday work day crew, throughout the year. With your help our students are kept safe during the lunch hour and they have a beautiful and well maintained environment both inside and out. Your dedication is key and we and we thank you!
We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a new year filled with new beginnings, excitement and adventure!
