Reminder - First PTO Meeting!
The year is off and running and we are continuing to enjoy a great start to the year! Just a reminder that our first PTO meeting is this week. Meet the new PTO members and hear about our school goals for the upcoming year! Look forward to seeing you at our first official meeting.
Important Attendance Information - Automated Message, Attendance Letters, and Attendance Policy
Our attendance this year has been outstanding! Thanks for your commitment in understanding the importance of being at school. Each day matters and makes a difference. We know and understand that your child might be absent from school throughout the year. We ask that you call the attendance line to report your child absent from school. It is a 24 hotline and this is extremely helpful to us in the morning as we monitor attendance and ensure that everyone is where they need to be.
262.970.2416 - 24 Hour Attendance Line
Starting this week we will be sending an automated phone message in the morning to you if your child is absent AND has not been called in. It will be your responsibility to call the office and let us know why your child is absent. If you do not call, then your child will be marked unexcused for the day. If you do not provide a rationale within 5 days, then your child will be marked truant. We will use the the phone numbers in IC to create our automated message. Therefore, please ensure that your information in IC is up-to-date.
We understand that appointments, illnesses, unexpected circumstances, and vacations may arise throughout the year. Under state law, you have the right to excuse your child for up to 10 days. After that 10 days, medical documentation is needed in order to excuse your child. We do recommend that it might be helpful to request a note from the doctor right away (even if you are not at the 10 day mark) so that you have that documentation right away. Again, even if you are not at the 10 days, you will then already have the necessary documentation.
Excused absences include the following: Illness, Funerals, Medical, Emergencies, Religious Holidays, Suspensions, and Family Trips.
We trust that families will do their best to ensure their child is in school to the fullest extent possible. It is our responsibility to communicate with you if we have concerns regarding your child’s attendance. In following state law, please remember that after 10 absences a medical excuse will be required to be an excused absence.
Each week attendance letters and/or home communication will be made in order to keep families in the loop regarding their child’s attendance. Please note that if a child does reach five absences, then a letter will be sent. In most circumstances, a five day letter is being sent as an FYI to you so that you are aware of your child’s current attendance status.
Please also remember that our school day starts at 8:40 AM. The first bell rings at 8:35 AM. We also believe that it is important for our students to arrive at the start of the school day. If a student is late to school then they are marked “tardy” in Infinite Campus. If a student acquires 10 tardies then a letter will be sent home to inform you that your child has been tardy for school repeatedly. We understand that appointments can run late or that there are very valid reasons a child might be late for school. Our responsibility is to communicate with you if we have concerns related to chronic lateness to school that may inhibit your child from making the most of the time at school.
We also ask that if you know that your child is going to be out of school for more than one day that you submit a Pre-Planned Absence Form to the office. This form will allow us to know that you plan to take your child out of school for more than one day. You can consider your pre-planned absence approved if you do not receive it back from the office. When you submit the form we review your child's attendance and academic progress to determine if it is a recommended request. If there are attendance or academic concerns, then we may not recommend the absence. You will be notified if this is the case. Below is the link for the pre-planned absence form. It can also be found on the website and a copy is also available in the office.
