WIZARD WEEKLY
Week of May 15th-19th
WORD FROM THE EMERALD CITY
~The countdown is on!! Hang in there, everyone...we only have a few more (busy) weeks to go!!
~We had a successful planning meeting on Monday with the team leaders and specialists. There was great feedback, discussion about schedules, suggestions for improvements, and strategizing that took place in order to continue to grow professionally and do what's best for kids! Make sure to meet with your team leader to find out about all of the information that was discussed and decided during the meeting. Thanks so much to everyone who participated. We got A LOT accomplished, and we now have a good blueprint for the 2017-2018 school year in place!
~ Teachers, I sent each grade level the end of the year information forms to fill out for each student. As you all meet and divide students into classes for next year, please take the time to fill out a form on each of your kiddos. These will be part of the check out sheet to turn in (sorted into classes) before you leave for the year. (5th grade, this does not include you).
~ Our 2nd semester PRIDE Posse party will take place on Monday, May 22nd. As like last time, members of PRIDE Posse will go to the gym during their specials time and have bounce houses and popcorn!!
- Channel 8 comes today for the segment. I will let everyone know the link, once we know, so we can publicize for all of our parents and community members to see. This will be great publicity for Elkins and the entire district.
Campus News
~ May is super busy with a lot of extra meetings, evening events, parties, etc. Make sure to ask if you don't know when something is or have a question about it! I may be a little scattered for the next 2 weeks as well, so if I forget something, don't feel bad reminding me! haha
~ Boswell will do a senior walk (where seniors come to walk through the campus in their caps and gowns) on May 23rd at approximately 1:00. I haven't gotten exact times/details yet, but I will send your way as soon as I know more!! Add this to your already EXPLODING calendars! The students loved it last year when CTHS came, and I think the seniors really enjoy it as well. With being a TRUE feeder school this year, it's going to be fun to start the Boswell school spirit early and continue on throughout HS.
~The final PTA meeting is this Thursday at 6:00. We are still looking for board members for fill vacant spots for next year, so please let me know if you have a parent who you think would like to volunteer!!
~ Encourage your students to start thinking of their vocabulary word they would like to represent at our parade on May 30th.
~Field Day for 2-5 is this Friday. Keep your fingers crossed for NO RAIN! We don't have a day left to make it up, so maybe it will hold off long enough for us to be able to participate.
~ We will not have an Elk of the Month for May. That is something you could include in your awards, if you choose to do so, but we won't be having an official one. May has just flown by, and with only a few weeks left, we don't have time to give them recognition that they deserve. I have talked to PTA about possibly getting yard signs next year for our Elk of the Month winners. I think it would be a great way to advertise and promote our students within our neighborhoods. They are checking on prices and if that would be something they could purchase for us!
Be Vocabulous!
Continue to discuss the vocabulary with your students! It's making a big difference!
Here is the copy of the s'more newsletter about the vocabulary program. It has all the words listed for the year, so you can plan ahead! It has each word listed and the grade level responsible. The kids really enjoyed this last year, and I think this was something I had more comments from parents about than anything! They would comment about their students knowing the meanings of words that they didn't even know. The vocabulary parade was a big hit too. Even the older kids got into it and had fun being creative and participating.
Please turn in the "Word Up" Levels sheets when you have students who display the appropriate use of the words. Obviously, the younger they are, the more "adaptation" needs to occur in order to receive the levels, but the students who received the tags last year, LOVED it!! I will put the "Word Up Level" sheet on canvas!
As a reminder, the way the "Word Up Levels" work, goes like this...
All students will start as rookies and all students will have a chance to move up as many levels as they would like. Spirit Tags (that PTA is selling) will be used for levels 2 thru 5 and when a student reaches level 2 thru 5 they will receive a spirit tag for that level from the principal.
Teachers will nominate students to move up through the levels.

** students plan to be in hallway at 11:30 to have a final "clap out" for our 5th graders as they exit the building.
We have changed where the students will need to be during the "clap out." For ease of traffic control, please leave the hallway clear from the 1st/2nd grade hallway to the office. This needs to be kept open for parents who are taking their kids for early dismissal after the parties. This was discussed in the planning meeting, and I completely agree! Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd can go to the cafeteria, 4th grade can sit in their hallway, 3rd grade can be in the hallway from the 4/5 hall and the cafeteria. and 5th grade can make a loop through the cafeteria when they exit, instead of going by the Art/Music doors.
