Matrix Classroom Lessons/Second Steps Lesson Schedule: HELLO WEEK
Monday
-The “Why” behind -Start with A Hello Week
--At Pioneer Trail we say in our pledge “include others by making them feel welcome” this week will help us do just that!
--Start With Hello is a free program offered by Sandy Hook Promise that trains students how to combat social isolation by showing students how to be more socially inclusive and connected to each other.
--The objectives of Start With Hello are to teach students how to:
• See Someone Alone
• Reach Out and Help
• Start With Hello
Conversation Lesson
-Ice Cream scoop examples
-Discuss importance of saying hello back when someone says it to you. Also, discuss if an adult says “good morning”, “how are you?”, etc., that it is important to answer back appropriately. Discuss what might be said back if an adult greets them.
Tuesday
Human Hello Bingo Card & Instructions
Each class will be pairing up with a different classroom/grade level so that students will be able to meet students in different grade levels than them. It will be the classroom directly across the hallway (I know K-1 is set up a bit different) from you that you pair up with. (Angle/Brewer, Reinkemeyer/Hutchison, Culp/Krauch, White/Strutton, Meyerpeter/Bax, Jolly/Prenger, Kampeter/Bopp, Smith/Hansen, Lollman/Warren, Bax/Girard, Beck/Siebeneck, Brauner/Spurgeon). Please schedule the time of day that will work best for you and your kiddos that day.
Activity Instructions (K-1):
The room will be ‘split in half’ into Choice 1 and Choice 2. The teacher will read aloud the 2 choices off the list and students have to move to the side of the room that relates to the choice that best describes them. (This part mimics would you rather). I would instill using a voice level 0-1 for this first part. Whenever students have chosen their side you will then ask them to pair up with someone on the same side as them but from the opposite class, tell each other their name and give each other a high five. (If you want to you can totally have them talk to that person for so many seconds, but I was trying to make it more manageable). Bring students to a voice level 0, and move on to the next thing on the list. This will help students get to know someone from a different class and grade level from them.
Activity Instructions (2-5) :
Distribute the Human Bingo Activity Worksheet to students. The 2 spaces with a ______ should be filled out by them before beginning the activity so they can find someone specific (Ex. Favorite subject is science, so they know they’re looking for someone who likes science). Explain that students should travel around the classroom with their Human Bingo Activity Worksheets and look for other students in the other classroom who can add their names to their cards (Example: Hansen’s kids can only ask/have Smith’s kids add their names to their cards and vice versa. Allow students time to meet one another and collect names. Give students the goal of getting ___BINGO’s/blackout (you make the choice of how many BINGO’s you want them to get) and when they meet that goal they sit with someone from the opposite class who also has a BINGO. At the end of the activity, ask students to respond to the following journal prompt: What new connections did you make today/Who are some new people you met today and what did you have in common with them? How can you continue the connections/friendships that you made today, so that no one feels socially isolated/leftout? (Note: awarding a “winner” who finishes first may not be conducive to the goal of this activity – to help students make connections with one another.)
Wednesday
-Create a Hello Week bookmark
-Each student will create two bookmarks with their buddy class. One of the bookmarks they will get to keep for themselves. The other bookmark will go to the office. All of the bookmarks will be jumbled up and eventually given to another student in the school. The two bookmarks can be the same or they can be different. Please be sure to have each student sign the bottom or the back of their bookmark so that the student receiving it will know who made it! The bookmark that is given to the office for an unknown friend needs to have a welcoming phrase or be something positive. Examples:
“Take care of each other”
“I believe in you”
“We are all in this together”
“You make this school great”
Thursday
Make a new friend - playground activity - details to come
Friday
Grade level pictures to spell out “HELLO!” - details to come

iReady~Get the Most from Your i-Ready Data
You and your students worked hard to get good Diagnostic data, but now, how can you use that data in a meaningful way? It’s important to analyze your data to plan instruction, engage students, and create a strong classroom culture. Click on the link to find tips, resources, and updates in i-Ready.
You will learn how to…
Analyze your data and plan instruction
Get students talking about their data
Create strong classroom culture that fosters student ownership and develops a growth mindset
Please do not send iReady reports home until Parent/Teacher conferences. If you do, please make a phone call to see if they understand the report or have any questions. They can be difficult for parents to read and understand, especially if it shows that their child is performing below grade-level. When you print off the report for P/T conferences, make sure that it is the report “For Families”. If you have questions, please come see me.
If you need help navigating iReady and looking at reports, please come see me. I would be happy to walk you through i-Ready Central, Reports, and/or ways to use the Standards Mastery for quick assessments.
When looking at iReady Diagnostic results, make sure that you are in Standard View. Standard View: Students are considered On Grade Level if they place Early, Mid, or Late within their current grade.
Teamwork Wednesday
Agendas are linked. Please make sure that you look over the agenda before TWW so that you are prepared to discuss and contribute. We will be looking over iReady data this week.

If you aren’t able to help this time, we will have another work night in January.
