Expanding Academic Support Services
Father John V. Doyle School
Introducing Mrs. Julie Coutu, Full-Time Resource & Academic Support
Dear Father Doyle Families,
As our school population continues to grow, so too do the diverse needs of our learners. Furthermore, the pandemic has impacted student learning in a myriad of ways. While we have worked diligently at Father Doyle to support and maintain academic progress, our students nonetheless face new challenges amidst an ever-changing academic landscape.
With this in mind, Father Doyle School is enhancing its ability to provide for the diverse needs of our student population. Beginning Monday, April 4th, Mrs. Julie Coutu will be joining the staff as a dedicated, full-time resource teacher serving students in grades K-8. Certified in both elementary and special education, Mrs. Coutu comes to Father Doyle with twenty years of experience in both public and private schools where she has served as a special education teacher, director of special education services, and academic support counselor.
By transitioning from our current part-time resource model to Mrs. Coutu's dedicated, full-time position, the school will be able to provide more than ten additional hours of resource services per week, while also enhancing the types of services provided. In addition to continuing with the one-on-one and small group academic interventions currently being provided, Mrs. Coutu will be supporting teaching and learning in our classrooms by assisting with small group instruction, targeted interventions, and the differentiation of lessons and materials to help ensure the continued growth and success of all students.
Please note that, with Mrs. Coutu starting this dedicated, full-time position, Mrs. Laurie Bloom will no longer serve as a resource teacher; however, she will remain on staff as our middle school science teacher. I want to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Bloom for her commitment to our students and her willingness to step into this role for the past six months. We look forward to her continuing on in her teaching position with the middle school team, and we're grateful for the many ways in which she tirelessly serves our school community. Mrs. Bloom will be working closely with Mrs. Coutu next week as we transition to this new model.
In the coming weeks, Mrs. Coutu will be reaching out to families of students currently receiving support services to further introduce herself. Please join me in providing Mrs. Coutu a warm welcome to our school community!
Sincerely,
Kevin Peloquin
Principal
