Hopkins Middle School Newsletter
March 19th, 2021
Dear Students and Parents,
You should receive your student’s report card in the mail within a few days. Inside the mailing, you will also find our NWEA Family Report. This is a report that shows your student’s attainment and growth in Mathematics and English/Language Arts on the NWEA Map test they took back in January.
As a brief reminder, this is a nationally normed progress monitoring test. Students are tested three times throughout the year. Scores are compared to all students in the same grade with the same number of weeks of instruction. Students are given an RIT score based on their test results. This RIT score contains the information for our school to see which standards they have mastered and which standards may need more work.
We tell every student to view their RIT score as an individual and something to be proud of. We try to make the analogy of a round of golf: the score is a representation of where achievement and growth are at this point in time. The goal is to make small improvements to the RIT score each time they take the test. There is no “A” or “E” handed out. Students are able to look at the Family Report and celebrate attainment and/or growth.
Here is a four-minute video that describes the Growth Report in your mailing. Please reach out if you have any questions.

It's a new trimester. You get a fresh start - go for it!
Failure is part of life - we all fail at things. Every time you fail you get to try again and you have learned something valuable. Get out your grit, step back up and try again. Be you! Put your best out there.
Electronic Devices
