EC & Elementary Family Resources
Did you know October 8th was World Migratory Bird Day? Migratory birds can get confused by bright lights. We can help by reducing the amount of light outside our homes, using warm lighting and by directing lights down towards the ground instead of up into the sky. Lights Out by award winning children’s book authors Marsha Diane Arnold & Susan Reagan is a wonderful, kid-friendly picture book that gently teaches the effects of light pollution on the animals of the Earth. IIf you want more information on the impact of artificial light take a look at the International Dark Sky Society’s Website.
Middle & High School Family Resources
Thompson and Wredling have kicked off their Caudills & Cookies book club! Several students signed up to read a Rebecca Caudill Young Readers’ Book Award Nominee, Wink by Rob Harrell or Marcus Vega Doesn’t Speak Spanish by Pablo Cartaya. They were given a copy of the book and we will meet twice for a lively discussion of the books and enjoy cookies.
East and North are collaborating with the St. Charles Public Library for a book club starting in December. We will be discussing The Firekeeper’s Daughter. Look out for more information coming home soon!!!
