STAAR EOC testing is this week! Please make sure your child gets a good night's rest and eats a good breakfast the morning of the test. Students, do your best! You are well prepared - finish strong!

All students currently enrolled in the above courses AND students who need to retest will be testing on the listed day. All other students will attend their regularly scheduled classes.

Let's all benefit from coming to school. All students who have perfect attendance for the week will be entered into a drawing on Fridays for some free stuff.
Students must have perfect attendance each period, each day of the week in order to be eligible. This starts on Monday, April 9th and will last until supplies run out.
Strive To Drive
All students with perfect attendance will receive tickets to be placed into a hopper for the drawing on May 22nd.
Each Six Weeks = 1 ticket
Each Semester = 4 tickets
Whole School Year = 10 tickets

FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. You must complete this application to receive grants, scholarships, work study and/or loans for college. The FAFSA is also a requirement for the Burleson Opportunity Fund. The FAFSA is FREE Do not pay a third party site to fill out the FAFSA.

SAT/ACT
SAT/ACT-- As a general rule, Juniors should take the SAT & ACT in the spring of their Junior year. Students should then retake one or both of the exams before applications are due in the fall/early spring of Senior year.
If you are on Free/Reduced lunch, contact Mrs. Pair to get a waiver to take the SAT and ACT for free. You will also get four College Application Fee Waivers!

Seniors
Bring your acceptance letters and scholarship information to the College and Career Center. We want all acceptance letters and scholarship awards even if you are not planning on attending the school or accepting the scholarship. If you turn in multiple acceptance letters, please indicate on the letter which one you plan to attend.
Dual
Students are expected to check their Hill College accounts once per day. Communication from Hill College goes directly to the student.

April is Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month. The following information is provided in an effort to increase awareness about child abuse and neglect.
Did you know…
In 2011, there were 65,948 confirmed CPS investigations of child abuse or neglect
Statistics show children who are 3 years old and younger are the most vulnerable to abuse and neglect
More than half of child victims are no older than 6 years of age
1 in 4 girls is sexually abused before her 18th birthday
1 in 6 boys is sexually abused before his 18th birthday
95% of children know their perpetrators
Some signs and symptoms to look for: (from the DFPS website)
Physical Abuse
Frequent injuries such as bruises, cuts, black eyes, or burns without adequate explanations
Frequent complaints of pain without obvious injury
Burns or bruises in unusual patterns that may indicate the use of an instrument or human bite; cigarette burns on any part of the body
Lack of reaction to pain
Aggressive, disruptive, and destructive behavior
Passive, withdrawn, and emotionless behavior
Fear of going home or seeing parents
Injuries that appear after a child has not been seen for several days
Unreasonable clothing that may hide injuries to arms or legs
Neglect
Obvious malnourishment
Lack of personal cleanliness
Torn or dirty clothing
Stealing or begging for food
Child unattended for long periods of time
Need for glasses, dental care, or other medical attention
Frequent tardiness or absence from school
Sexual Abuse
Physical signs of sexually transmitted diseases
Evidence of injury to the genital area
Pregnancy in a young girl
Difficulty in sitting or walking
Extreme fear of being alone with adults of a certain sex
Sexual comments, behaviors, or play
Knowledge of sexual relations beyond what is expected for a child’s age
Sexual victimization of other children
Texas law requires individuals to report when they suspect a child has been abused or neglected by calling the DFPS at
