Closing the Confidence Gap: Articulating Your Value in the Workplace
What: Confidence in your skills and your ability to articulate that is a critical component of career success. We see the importance of expressing your value and contributions in career steps such as writing a resume, networking with employers, interviewing for a role, and negotiating salary. In the U.S., knowing your value and being able to express that is the basis of these professional activities. This session will address the “confidence gap” between men and women, and why it may exist. We will specifically review how this plays out in the workplace, what it means for University of Georgia students, and how we can practically begin to close this gap.

Connect Online with Employers Attending the Career & Internship Fair!
What: Join this event to help you prepare for the Fall Career & Internship Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 20th!
Students will get the opportunity to connect with employers attending the Fall Career & Internship Fair to gain wisdom and advice on how to make the most of their time at the Career Fair! You will hear career tips and build your professional network - all online!
It's free, it's only an hour and it's fun!
How it Works: Online networking enables you to speed-network no matter where you are in the world. You can sign in from your home, office, library, phone or tablet. The chats are text-based and timed, allowing you to make connections, exchange contact information, and end the hour with several new connections you didn't have before. After the chats, add your new contacts to your network by adding them to your LinkedIn networks or following up via email.
Students: You may enter one (or more) booths to begin chatting with an employer. Booths are broken down by the following topics:
- Appropriate dress and attire
- Following up with employers after the career fair
- How to approach employers/Elevator pitch
- Resume tips and what to bring to the fair
- Employer research/How to Prepare
Here are some ideas on how to get the conversation started:
- Can I ask for your advice on ____?
- What helps a student stand out at the career fair?
- What tips would you give on making a good first impression?
- What should I bring to the career fair?
- How should I follow up with an employer who I connected with at the fair?
- And more!
A transcript of your conversations will be saved for you to access after each event, so you can look back at your chat history, review your notes, gather contact information and follow up.

Masters in Marketing Research Information Session
When: September 20, 3:30pm
Where: 213 Correll Hall
In this event, we will provide information about the many opportunities a Master of Marketing Research MMR degree offers to students interested in a career in Consumer Insights and Marketing Research. Following the presentation, recent grads of the program will discuss the interesting work they do and how the MMR degree created many opportunities for an exciting and fulfilling career. Refreshments and snacks will be available.
About the MMR Program:
The MMR program at the University of Georgia is the oldest and most successful program of its nature (first class graduated in '81, currently 650+ alums) and it was endowed by the Coca-Cola company and other firms such as Nielsen and MARC research to develop the skills to face the challenges of the growth of data availability in the 70s (e.g., scanner data) . Our students are highly sought after and we have a rate of 100% employment every year with students, with or without prior experience, receiving multiple offers. The 2017 GRIT report (Greenbook Research Industry Trends) showed that the UGA MMR is recalled four times as often as all the other programs combined! We're extremely proud of the success of our program over almost four decades and some of our first grads are currently high-level executives in a variety of client and supplier companies.
