Glenn Elementary
Home of the Eagles
Congratulations Glenn Elementary!
Glenn Elementary is proud to celebrate achieving first place in Illionis in the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. At the end of September, students at Glenn received a congratulatory letter from Governor Quinn. On October 3, students celebrated their accomplishment in a "Readers are Leaders" assembly. Students starred in their own movie and sang the school song. They received a banner from Scholastic to honor their accomplishment. Guest readers were in attendance and read aloud to students in their classrooms following the assembly. It was a GREAT Day!
A Banner from Scholastic
Susan Olson, our Scholastic Representative, presented Glenn with this banner during our celebration assembly. She informed us that Glenn Elementary will appear in the 2015 Scholastic Book of World Records!
Guest Readers
Several leaders from our community attended the celebration assembly and read aloud to students in their classrooms. We hope they will visit us again soon.
Mike Trask, School Board Member, read aloud, Spookly the Square Pumpkin to second graders. He said that he found a new favorite book.
Denise Schuster, School Board Member, read aloud two books: one about numbers and one about letters to a group of kindergarteners.
Meta Mickens-Baker, School Board Member, read aloud to first graders. She said her sons learned to love reading when they attended Glenn.
Laura O'Donnell, Director of Secondary Education, read aloud to kindergarteners and had so much fun that she offered to return anytime to read again.
Mark Pritchett, School Board Member, read aloud to second graders. The students loved having a visitor read to them.
These ISU students read aloud to third graders. Glenn students asked these athletes a lot of questions about playing sports in college.

One School One Word
The team at Glenn has been working hard to make this the best year ever. Each of us looked inside our hearts to find just ONE WORD on which to focus for this school year. We all have a Secret "Stretch" Pal who is encouraging us and celebrating our successes throughout the year. Our words have already had an impact on how we approach challenges at work and at home. We hope you can see the positive impact this process has had at Glenn Elementary. This video shows all the words that staff member chose.
