Happy New Year!~ January 2021
Greetings Bobcat Families!
I hope each of you had a restful and meaningful time with your family and friends during the winter break. As they returned to school this week in person or virtual, the atmosphere was very positive. As educators at Brookhollow elementary we are thankful for all opportunities to impact young lives. Our students are the reason we’re here.
As we begin the second semester, the teachers, staff, and I have one vision for our students and we hope it closely matches yours. We want ALL of them to become all that they can be. We want them to be successful through good, consistent attendance, perseverance, utilizing help from our faculty, and working diligently. We want this because these traits will build good habits that will carry them profitably throughout their school years. We expect a great deal from them because they are so very capable of producing great results! Parents, please be aware that attendance at Brookhollow Elementary is very important. Students must be present at least 90% of the time in order to fully obtain their learning in person and virtually.
About 49.7% of our students returned to in person for the 3rd 9 weeks here at BES. As we have learned since March 2020, things can change at a moment’s notice (but as of today), here is some information to help with planning for the new school year:
- Students should attend class and be fully engaged in person or virtual with a workspace conducive to 90% of learning engagement.
- As a reminder, classes begin at 7:35 am. and pick up is 2:50 p.m. Virtual should expect the same timeline aligned with synchronous and asynchronous learning.
- Due to CoVid-19 and social distancing issues, we ask that you do not leave your car during drop off or pick up.
- Mask should be changed and worn daily as well as fit the designated perimeter of the face.
- Essential items should be sanitized/cleaned daily/weekly (e.g., backpacks, lunchboxes, etc.).
- Accessing Canvas for most students began this week. See information below about accessing Canvas for parents.
We are incredibly excited to have students in the building and happy to see the progress our virtually students have made amid the pandemic. We are looking forward to a fantastic second semester!!
Although December was short we were able to capture a few memorable moments to ring in the New Year from our "Stay in Your Sleigh" event, Science Night, to our school-wide holiday spirit days during the last two weeks - view our Bobcat Student Broadcast below.
Happy New Year,

Continuously Improving ~ Teaching and Learning
Contact your child's teacher for more information or questions. Teachers will set aside "Parent Contact" time to assist. We will still have access to Google classroom within Canvas. Canvas is designed to organize students’ classes and resources in one easy to access location and help communication between parents/guardians and teachers. As a parent or guardian, Canvas will allow you to observe your child's classwork, assignments, and grades.
Parents and students should have received these Instructions for Parents and these Instructions for Students to guide them how to access the Canvas training courses. Parents will need to be an observer to log in and get access to the training course. You can use these instructions (English), Instructions (Spanish), or this video to set up a Canvas account to observe their students. You can use the Instructions for Students with your students so that they can locate and log in to Canvas. Remember you need to publish your courses so students can see them.
