Egg Harbor Township High School

Week of April 25, 2021

A Message From Our Principal

What an exciting week we had! Was wonderful to see so many students in the school for five straight days. Newcomers to the game had a little adjusting to wearing shields but all is good. Our students are amazing! To see them take precautionary measures and wear both the mask and shield to protect themselves and others is so awesome. I am so proud of them.

For the first time since March we were able to celebrate student achievement in the auditorium. We held the National Honor Society Inductions this past Thursday, April 22nd. We had 107 Juniors and Seniors inducted. Unfortunately due to restrictions at the time we couldn’t allow parents but we did live stream. Congratulations to all our inductees and thanks to Ms. Theophall the NHS advisor for her hard work!

On Wednesday, April 28, 2021 We held the PSAT testing for 137 sophomore students. We were able to have the majority of students socially distanced in the gymnasium and several overflow to available classrooms. I'm sure they all gave 100% and did a fine job! Thank you to Ms. Elko and guidance for planning and executing the examination.

On Monday afternoon, April 26 we finally got some great news from Governor Murphy. He discussed large gatherings, which for us means prom and graduation as well as award ceremonies with parents invited! We still do not have all the details of what we can do, but I am hopeful for a more normal graduation this year! He also said at the end of May the numbers may increase! This gives us hope! We have already made changes to the prom from 2 seatings to one longer night that includes dancing!

Another terrific week of athletics! Our students are rocking the Cape Atlantic League. Make sure you see the athletic scores below! The undefeated EHT spring teams currently are, Baseball (5-0), Girls Lacrosse (4-0) and Boys Track (3-0). Thanks to our coaches, Mr. Carmichael, Ms. Williams and Mr. Smith for all you and your assistants do for our athletes!!! Great job to all the spring sports teams! Keep it up!

EHT Idol is still underway. Look for our two competitors this week, Alexandria Ciurlino and Joy Townsed! The two will be fighting to make it into the final four!!! Make sure you vote!

Until next week, stay safe, be well, continue to dream of the possibilities ahead of us, be happy and smile at someone!

Boys lacrosse defeated Lower Cape May on Monday 16-6. Drew Carpenter scored 4 goals and added 3 assists. PJ Hladun, RJ Matthews and Tevon Belgrave each scored 3 goals.

EHTHS Girls Lacrosse is off to a great start! Last week we started off the season with our first win over Oakcrest. The final score was 17-0 leading the attack was senior mid Laine Walterson with 4 goals and 2 assists, Anna Smith and Emily Gargan both with hat tricks, and Saige Broshard and Grace Carpenter contributing a pair each. Maddison Rando, Kierstyn Zinckgraf and Kylie Elwell all added one! Great Team WIN over Oak!

EHTHS GIrls Lacrosse then went on the road to Kingsway a team that EHTHS has yet to beat! We lost to them in playoffs in 2019 and it was time for redemption... and that is exactly what we got. We went and beat Kingsway 7-6! Huge win for EHTHS GIrls Lacrosse! Laine Walterson again leads the attack with four and Emily Gargan with 3. Our defense is what held strong and true to come out with the WIN!

This week we started off with LCMR at home and again EHTHS Girls Lacrosse came out with the WIN! This was a solid CAL win for EHTHS! The final score was 18-6! Leading our attack was Emily Gargan with 7 goals and senior Laine Walterson followed her up with 6 goals and 1 assist! Anna Smith and Grace Carpenter both added a pair each! EHTHS Girls Lacrosse started the HARD HAT AWARD - (player of the game) and this went to KYLIE ELWELL for unstoppable defense, remarkable hustle and this low defender even got a goal! Way to go Kylie!

Wednesday April 28th, 2021 - EHTHS went to Our Lady of Mercy Academy and again came home with the WIN! Another solid CAL win for EHTHS with the final score 14-7! Leading the attack was Emily Gargan with 6 goals. Anna Smith right behind her with 4 and Saige Broshard with 2 sneaky goals around the crease. Can't forget about Grace Carpenter with the strong and powerful goal and Laine Walterson with 1 goal and 4 assists. THE HARD HAT AWARD - went to someone who doesn't play this position but with injuries she was versatile and changed positions with no complaints. KIERSTYN ZINCKGRAF with a job well done by going into the defensive end and holding your own. Way to put the team on your back!

The Eagles are beginning to peak at the right time. On Tuesday, they flew east to battle the Braves from Absegami at the Pines course of Seaview. Despite losing a close match, the young birds shot their low team score of the season. Captain Katie Cabinian led all golfers with a score of 41. Charlie Jones (43) shot his low round of the season by adhering to Coach Belinksy's "75-85" philosophy. Ashley Conant (51) and Johnny Neveling (52) rounded out the scoring. On Wednesday, the Eagles flew back to defend their own nest against two foes, the Vikings from Atlantic City and the Tigers from Lower Cape May. The flock responded by going even lower than the previous day and defeating both opponents to earn two crucial victories. Captain Katie once again led the way with a 42 and Charlie Jones placed second with a 45. Sensational sophomore Joe Del Re fired a career low 47, and super senior Ashley Conant (48) broke her career low for the second time in a week. The Eagles will now face a pivotal week where they need to win two of three matches in order to qualify for the sectional tournament.

EHT Boys Volleyball lost in two sets to a strong Kingsway team on Friday but bounced back against a fellow first-year program in Hammonton on Monday. EHT won 25-11, 25-20 by literally serving the Blue Devils off the court. Senior Nick Fortis led the team with six serving aces while junior Ron Sansom contributed three as well as senior Edward Al-Nammour who served up three aces including the match point. Junior Andy Auyeung had a team-high six kills during the match. Senior captain Ivan Wang had fourteen assists and three digs. EHT takes on Pleasantville and Pinelands at the end of this week and hosts ACIT on Monday. Let's hope that the boys can get to 5-1!

Saturday May 1st

Joining Ahmad in the Super Sprint Medley relay were Rondell Vaughan, Ahmad Fogg, and Malachi Wesley.
