Parent Teacher Conferences - Please plan to join teachers October 19th for this year's PT Conferences. Conferences will be held from 7:30 am-8:00 pm. The Cottonwood staff looks forward to sharing our ideas with you. Together we can help all of our students be successful.
Cottonwood fall classroom parties will be held Tuesday, October 31st. The Head Room Parent, with the guidance of the classroom teacher, will organize and plan the classroom party, which may not last longer than one hour. If you are providing snacks, please refer to the district wellness policy. While we love for families to be a part of the fun, remember that class parties should be for Cottonwood students only.

Cottonwood Student Council
Student Council runs a school store every Tuesday morning. Students can buy erasers, pencils, pens, highlighters, etc. from the store. Prices range from $.25 to $2.00. Proceeds from the store finance our service projects.
Information regarding our upcoming Food/Gift Card drive will be out soon. We hope to bring in 1000 articles of food for the Andover Food Bank, which is housed in the United Methodist Church. We are also asking for Gift Cards to Target, Walmart and Amazon this year. We would like to get at least $1,000 in gift cards so that we can send them to Matzke Elementary and Kirk Elementary in Houston, Texas and two elementary schools in Vidor, Texas.
Thank you for supporting the Cottonwood Student Council. If you have any questions about Student Council, please contact Jill Hodge at hodgej@usd385.org.

Fire Prevention Safety Week
Thank you to the Andover Fire Department and Ambulance service for visiting with our Kindergarteners last week. These hometown heros left us with some valuable information.
FIRE SAFETY TIPS FROM USFA
In the event of a fire, remember that
- Time is the biggest enemy and every second counts! Escape first!
- Develop a home fire escape plan and practice it frequently.
- In your fire escape plan, designate a meeting place outside.
- Make sure everyone in your family knows two ways to escape from every room.
- Practice feeling your way out with your eyes closed.
- Never stand up in a fire, always crawl low under the smoke and try to keep your mouth covered.
- Never return to a burning building for any reason; it may cost you your life.
- Finally, having a working smoke detector dramatically increases your chances of surviving a fire.

After school dismissal is at 3:45. Please continue to follow the traffic patterns. It helps the adults if you have the name cards in the side windows. If you have suggestions on how to make our process and flow of traffic safer, feel free to share your ideas.
