Cottonwood Student Council

Student Council runs a school store every Tuesday morning. Students can buy erasers, pencils, pens, highlighters, etc. from the store. Prices range from $.25 to $2.00. Proceeds from the store finance our service projects.

Information regarding our upcoming Food/Gift Card drive will be out soon. We hope to bring in 1000 articles of food for the Andover Food Bank, which is housed in the United Methodist Church. We are also asking for Gift Cards to Target, Walmart and Amazon this year. We would like to get at least $1,000 in gift cards so that we can send them to Matzke Elementary and Kirk Elementary in Houston, Texas and two elementary schools in Vidor, Texas.

Thank you for supporting the Cottonwood Student Council. If you have any questions about Student Council, please contact Jill Hodge at

Fire Prevention Safety Week

Thank you to the Andover Fire Department and Ambulance service for visiting with our Kindergarteners last week. These hometown heros left us with some valuable information.

In the event of a fire, remember that

  • Time is the biggest enemy and every second counts! Escape first!
  • Develop a home fire escape plan and practice it frequently.
  • In your fire escape plan, designate a meeting place outside.
  • Make sure everyone in your family knows two ways to escape from every room.
  • Practice feeling your way out with your eyes closed.
  • Never stand up in a fire, always crawl low under the smoke and try to keep your mouth covered.
  • Never return to a burning building for any reason; it may cost you your life.
  • Finally, having a working smoke detector dramatically increases your chances of surviving a fire.

Cottonwood PTO

The Cottonwood PTO consists of parents and teachers working together for the betterment of the school. Our purpose is to support our Cottonwood staff and provide opportunities for all students. Our meetings are the 1st Tuesday of each month from 6:30-7:30 in the Cottonwood library--Nov . 7th, Jan. 9th, Feb. 6th, Apr. 3rd and May 1st. Childcare is provided by high school students.

Notes from the Sept. 5th meeting can be found here.

Notes from the Oct. 3rd meeting can be found here

Throughout the year there are several opportunities to volunteer. Check out our Facebook page for more information.

School Safety

Students should not arrive at school before 8:20, unless he/she is registered for YMCA Latchkey. We do not have supervision available and we don't want anyone to get hurt or lost before school begins.

Breafast is served from 8:20-8:50.

After school dismissal is at 3:45. Please continue to follow the traffic patterns. It helps the adults if you have the name cards in the side windows. If you have suggestions on how to make our process and flow of traffic safer, feel free to share your ideas.

Food Service -$10.00

New this year, students who have a negative $10.00 lunch balance will be given a sack lunch. This meal will be charged to the student for a period of three days. If at the
end of this three-day period, Andover Food Services has not been notifed as to payment arrangements or if payment has not been made, further charges will not be allowed. The student must bring payment to purchase a lunch or bring a lunch to school.

Free & Reduced Meals are available to qualifying households. They are available through Parents/Free/Reduced Lunch Forms or through Bonnie Scarth at Support Services, 202 W Market, 316-218-4604
