Weather-related closures and make-up days

We have had a very interesting winter, and it's not over yet!

Since the start of the winter season, District 15 has used four emergency closure days. There has been some confusion regarding our requirement to make-up school days that occurred when Governor Pritzker issued a disaster proclamation.

To mitigate any confusion, YES, we will be making up these days. We are required to make-up snow/emergency days (up to five per year).

Following Board of Education approval in April, we will announce when the official last day of school will be.

As a reminder, whenever school will be closed due to inclement weather or emergency situation, we will notify you in a variety of ways. Notifications will be sent by text, email, phone call, district website alert, D15 mobile application notification, social media and local news outlets. To ensure your cell phone number is in our communications system, please log into Skyward, and enter your cell phone number in the "phone 2" field under personal contact information.

Online registration is off to a great start

Thanks to the hard work of many D15 staff members, online registration for incoming kindergarteners and new students is up and running through Infinite Campus. More than 400 families have already utilized this new platform to register their children for the 2019-20 school year!

Online registration is the first step toward transitioning from our current Student Information System (Tyler) to Infinite Campus. There will be several training opportunities for staff in the coming months to learn about Infinite Campus and how to use it before it is fully implemented in August.

Spanish Dual Language Program Continues into second year

Registration for Spanish Dual Language (two-way language immersion) is in high demand as we enter the second year of the program in District 15. The program will continue at Jane Addams and Winston Campus Elementary Schools in 2019-20. The schools will house both 1st grade and kindergarten sections of the program.

There has been significant interest from parents from across District 15 as registration opens for incoming kindergarten students. An official informational night will be held at Jane Addams, Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m. Learn more about the program by visiting our website.

Thank you to staff members Yesenia Esparza-La Fronza, Liliana Perez, Jamie Nutt and Cheryl Wolfel for participating in the video below, highlighting the program for interested parents.

Submit National Board Certification documentation

Have you obtained national certification in your field this school year? We would like to recognize you!

Anyone who has received or renewed National Board Certification (or equivalent for OT/PT, School Psychologist, Speech Language Pathologist, or Social Workers) this year must send documentation of the certification (or renewal) to Kristin Fortunato in Personnel by February 15.

Staff benefit highlight: CVS Health and Walmart Information

Our pharmaceutical healthcare provider, CVS Health, has reached a new multi-year agreement, ensuring that Walmart pharmacies will continue to be a part of our commercial and managed Medicaid networks.

This means those insured under District 15's health insurance plans can continue to fill prescriptions at Walmart pharmacies and do not need to find a new in-network pharmacy.

CVS Health has issued a flyer summarizing highlights and key facts about CVS Health and Walmart.
