Important Info!
SETTINGS
Make a Picture the Background
- Settings
- Brightness & Wallpaper
- You will see two images – your Lock Screen image and your Home Screen image
- Click on the box with the two images and you will see Camera Roll and Photo Stream
- Click the picture you want and choose Set Lock Screen, Set Home Screen or Set Both
Preview More Lines of Emails
- Settings
- Mail, Contacts, Calendars
- Change the Preview options to add more lines
Prevent others from logging onto the device and installing apps/ Restrict/Hide Apps
- Settings
- General
- Restrictions
- Enable Restrictions
- Choose a password
- Turn off Installing Apps
This will need to be turned off and back on each time you want to install new apps.
Passcode Lock Security
- Go to Settings, General, Passcode Lock
- To increase security, turn off Simple Passcode and use a longer passcode with a combination of numbers, letters, punctuation and special characters
Turn on Bookmarks Bar in Safari
- Settings
- Tap Safari,
- Turn Always Show Bookmarks Bar to ON
FOR PROGRAMS THAT UTILIZE THE KEYBOARD
Type in All Caps - Double-click one of the Shift keys
Copy and Paste
- Tap and hold down over the text you want to copy
- Choose Select to select the exact portion of text you'd like the copy.
- Tap Copy
- Go to a different app or a different location in the app you are in
- Tap and hold down and select Paste
- To select an entire paragraph of text you need to tap one time and choose Select All.
Replace a Word
- Tap and hold on the word choose Select
- Choose Selections
- Select one of the suggestions
Define a Word
- Tap and hold on the word choose Define
Quick Way to Type an Apostrophe
- Tap and hold on the ! key
- Slide your finger up to the apostrophe
Quick Way to Type Quotation Marks
- Tap and hold on the ? key
- Slide your finger up to the apostrophe
Add a Period and a Space - Double-tap the spacebar
Undo Typing - Shake the iPad and select Undo.
Special Characters - Hold down on some letters (vowels, Y, S, L, Z, C, N, !, ?,$, -, /, " ,', 0 and .) to reveal a menu of symbols and punctuation.
Split the Keyboard - Hold both thumbs on the onscreen keyboard and pull out, keeping your thumbs on the screen the entire time. Put the keyboard back in it's original mode by dragging the keyboard together with your thumbs. In split mode, you can move the keyboard by dragging the keyboard up and down, beginning in the bottom right corner.
IN SAFARI WEB BROWSER
Quick Way to Type Web Extensions
- Tap and hold on the .com key
- Slide your finger to the extension you need
Zoom Quickly on Websites - Pinch out with two fingers on the screen
Save or Copy Images from the Web - Hold down on the image until options appear and choose Save or Copy
HELPFUL HINTS
Make a Backup of Your iPad
- Connect to your computer
- Open iTunes
- Right-click on your iPad under Devices
- Choose Back up
- If you use iCloud, then iCloud stores your music, photos, apps, contacts, calendars and more and wirelessly pushed them to your iOS5 devices and computers. iCloud is integrated with your apps, so everything happens automatically. You do not need to dock your iOS devices or sync it to your computer.
iPad Frozen?
- Hold down the Sleep/Wake button (top of iPad) and the Home button at the same time
- Your iPad will reboot and start again (about 30 seconds)
Save the Battery Life
- Don’t leave your iPad in the heat (car, outside, etc.)
- Reduce the screen brightness (Settings, Brightness and Wallpaper)
- Use Airplane Mode when you do not need the Internet (Settings, Airplane Mode)
- Use Wi-Fi instead of 3G if possible (Settings, Wi-Fi)
- Change the settings on Mail and Calendar to the longest option or Manually (Settings, Mail/Contact/Calendars, Fetch New Data)
- Remove Push Notifications (Settings, Notifications)
- Turn off as many sounds as possible (Settings, General, Sounds)
- Turn off Bluetooth (Settings, General, Bluetooth)
- Charge the battery when it dies
