REMINDER—TWO HOUR DELAY TOMORROW, FRIDAY, APRIL 8TH
Due to teacher professional development, school will begin at 10:30 AM for students.
Report cards for the third marking period will be sent home with students tomorrow.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES-TUESDAY, APRIL 12TH
Students will have a 1:00 dismissal due to parent-teacher conferences. Buses will leave Shalom at approximately 1:00 that day.
If you wish to schedule a conference with any of your students’ teachers, please email elementary secretary, Mrs. Patti Crilley today, firstname.lastname@example.org, or call her at the school 717-375-2223. Confirmation of scheduled conferences will be emailed tomorrow, Friday, April 8th.

Earlier this week parents should have a received an email with a link to a survey about your 2015-2016 Shalom experience. Please complete this so that we can have your feedback. The survey is open until Monday, April 18, 2016.
We had an outstanding book fair this year! Our total sales of $5,427.45 was almost $2,000 higher than last year’s total, and netted the school $2,985.10 in Scholastic dollars! Thank you to everyone who participated!
We are offering a number of exciting summer camps this year! Yesterday each student in grades pre-K-7 received a flyer. Early bird discount is available prior to May 15th. Additional flyers are available at the school to share! These camps are not limited to Shalom students, so invite a friend.
Students in grades 1 and 2 are taking the Terra Nova assessment on April 19 and 20.
Students in grades 3 and 4 will take the paper copy ACT/Aspire assessment on April 19 and 20.
Those in grades 5-10 will take the computer-based ACT/Aspire assessment. They will take the assessment at the following times:
5th grade: April 19 a.m.; April 20 p.m.
6th grade: April 18 a.m.; April 19 a.m.; April 20 a.m.
7th grade: April 18 a.m.; April 19 p.m.; April 20 a.m.
8th grade: April 18 p.m.; April 19 a.m. & p.m.; April 20 a.m.
9th grade: April 14 p.m.; April 15 a.m.
10th grade: April 14 p.m., April 15 a.m.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the tight computer usage schedule, and rigid deadlines for returning the tests to be scored, it will be very difficult for students to make up tests they miss. Please keep that in mind when scheduling appointments. Thank you!
MIDDLE SCHOOL FIELD DAY-APRIL 20TH
Middle school students will have field day the afternoon of April 20th, and may come to school in field day clothes.
Shalom’s high school chorale will hold a fundraiser Monday, April 25th, from11 AM-9 PM. A percentage of net sales will be donated to the chorale. Click on the link below to download a flyer.
GIANT/MARTIN’S A PLUS REWARDS
It’s hard to believe this great event is only 4 weeks away—Friday evening, May 6th, and Saturday, May 7th! We expect all parents to participate. If you have not been assigned an area to volunteer, please contact the school.
Dutchfest yard signs: We have our Dutchfest yard signs available for those who are interested in displaying them in their yard. You may pick them up in the main office. We are suggesting that they be displayed beginning April 20th. We will be sending a poster home to each family within the next several weeks.
CHANGES TO FRIDAY EVENING:
Longaberger silent auction and tea! This year we are excited to offer a limited number of baskets at a silent auction and tea that will be held in our Learning Commons. The event will begin at 7:00 PM. There is no cost to attend the tea, but we are asking that those planning to attend RSVP to email@example.com, or call the school 717-375-2223, by Monday, May 2nd. Thanks for helping us know how many to expect when planning.
Silent toy auction: Also in the learning commons, adults will have the opportunity to place bids on quality, classic children’s toys (valued at $25 or higher). This is a great opportunity for parents and grandparents to bid on gifts!
Food Items and Helpers Needed: We are in need of specialty baked items--homemade breads and rolls, homemade cinnamon rolls, apple dumplings, homemade candy, etc., to sell at our baked goods stand. In keeping with our “Dutch style foods” theme, we want to focus on “made from scratch” items rather than items from packaged mixes.
We are in need of workers on Saturday in various food areas.

Auction donations: If you have an item to donate please let the school know by April 15th, so that we can include it in the sale catalog. (We do not need to have the item until closer to Dutchfest.).
Quilted items: If you are donating an item to the quilt auction, please send the information to the school office (name of item, size, donated by whom, etc.) by Friday, April 29th, so that it can be included in the catalog.
SCA-5K and Fun Walk: Join us for our annual event Saturday, May 7th, at 8:30 AM. A registration form is available on our website, www.shalomca.com. Forms are also available from the office. Register by April 25th, and receive a $5 discount and free t-shirt. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners in each age group.
5K Business sponsors needed: We have $300 and $400 advertising opportunities available. Call or email Mr. Jeryl Hoover in the business office, 375-2223, email@example.com, by April 20th.
Yard sale: The class of 2018 will be holding a yard sale and will be accepting donations closer to the event. Look for more information in an upcoming parent newsletter.

Lisa has a degree in Art from Pensacola Christian College. She worked for a publisher, taught art at an area Christian school, and has given art lessons in her home.
