Stoller Weekly
November 20, 2020
Message From The Principal
Good afternoon Stoller families,
As we get ready to reflect on things we are grateful for next week, I wanted to express my gratitude for your support and dedication to the Stoller community. Even though current circumstances may impact some of our traditional gatherings, the precautions we will take as a community will enable us to stay safe and bring us back together sooner.
I know that you have received information regarding the boundary adjustments that Superintendent Grotting will be recommending to the Board. Those boundary adjustments have Findley Elementary and Rock Creek Elementary leaving Stoller. There will be information coming soon regarding Legacy for our current 7th graders who wish to remain at Stoller for their 8th grade year.
Progress marks/grades were shared with you this week. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to your student’s teacher(s). Navigating CDL and technology is not always seamless. We want to partner with you to ensure that your student has access and opportunities to demonstrate academic growth. If there are other circumstances that you need support with please contact your grade level counselor and/or an administrator. We are here for you.
Please note the change in Advisory time on Wednesdays starting on December 2nd. Advisory will start meeting from 12:00 - 12:30. This change will allow for teachers to have a consistent schedule for office hours and other student support. In addition, it will allow them to be able to attend district wide professional development.
We will not publish a Weekly next week due to the holiday break.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

National History Bee, National Science Bee, International Geography Bee and US Academic Bee
If your child is interested in any of these competitions you will need to register them to take the ORQE (Online Regional Qualifying Exam) on the IAC website. To register your child please visit orqe.iacompetitions.com and choose “Sponsor Registration” under the Site Map heading. Under “Tell Us About Yourself” this is the Parent/Guardian information NOT the student information. You will need to select your school (Stoller) and select your relationship to the school as Parent/Guardian. *Note - you can also register your child for the US Academic Bee, though there is no qualification needed.
There is no fee to take the ORQE’s (Online Regional Qualifying Exams). Please see the Middle & Elementary School Division Guide (page 3 - 2020-21 Season) for information on fees for regionals, etc. Once you register your child, you should begin receiving sponsor emails with relevant dates and information. ORQE’s open in late November and close February 1st, 2021 at 11:59 PST (this is the testing window for your child to take their ORQE's).
Once you have registered your child you can login and have your child take the exam at a time that is convenient for you when you are able to monitor and proctor the exam process.
Please visit International Academic Competitions for more information about these competitions. If you have any questions please contact Sara Groat at sara_groat@beaverton.k12.or.us
Reminder: Student Device Damage & Protection Plan Payment Due
If you opted into the program and have not paid the $20 fee please do so asap. Students need to pay the assigned fee prior to any damage or loss claims to be eligible for the Protection Program coverage and no later than 30 days after they begin school.
This $20 fee may be paid via the Online Payment System or by submitting a check and a completed form to the office. Checks must be made payable to Stoller Middle School (NO CASH).
This fee is waived for families who qualify for the free or reduced meal benefits program and have completed the “Permission to Share” form.
If you do not need the coverage you can "opt out" of the program through your ParentVue account or by completing this form (Spanish Version) and returning to the main office.
Attendance during Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL)
To report all day absences or absences during the day due to appointments, contact Attendance for excused absences.
The Attendance line: (503)356-2681 or email: sms-attendance-shared@beaverton.k12.or.us
This email can also be accessed on Stoller's website.
If your student is going to be absent and not going to access curriculum anytime during that day, then you will need to report the absence with attendance for that to be an excused absence.
If your student is absent from a class and they access the curriculum, turn in an assignment, or engage in an activity on canvas anytime during the day, they Engaged Online (EOL) and this is not an absence, no need to call or email attendance. This is not considered an absence and the teacher will be able to make corrections in the students' attendance if they are marked absent. You may get an automated call from Stoller at 5pm, you may ignore it.
If your student was marked absent from a class that they did attend, please email the teacher to get it corrected. Do not call the attendance line, the teacher must confirm any changes to be made.

Stoller Volunteers
Welcome Stoller Volunteers!
Volunteering in the 2020-21 school year will be unlike previous years. Although we are unsure what remote volunteer needs will be, we invite you to create a volunteer profile or update your existing profile. This will ensure you are able to help Stoller staff and students through volunteer work as opportunities arise. A volunteer profile is required for all volunteering within BSD schools. Please follow the steps below to update or create your volunteer profile. Additional information is available at www.stollerpto.com/volunteer.
Existing BSD Volunteers (new to Stoller)
Please send an email to update_volunteer_locations@beaverton.k12.or.us and request to add Stoller Middle School to the organizations listed in your mVP account. Provide your full first and last name as it appears in your profile. If you will no longer be volunteering at an elementary school, you may also request to remove that school from your profile.
New BSD Volunteers
If you are a new volunteer to the Beaverton School District, you must create a volunteer account. This process includes a background check.
- Parent/Guardian: Complete the Parent/Guardian Volunteer Application
- Community Volunteer: Complete the Community Volunteer Application (This applies to Grandparents, Nannies, Neighbors, etc)
- Youth Volunteers: Complete the Youth Volunteer Application
Within the application, please include all of the BSD schools where you are a volunteer. You will have one profile for all your BSD volunteering.
- This step also initiates a background check. It will come up for renewal every 2 years.
- Once your background check is complete, you will receive an email from Stoller PTO stating your background check approval status, and your volunteer profile at myimpactpage.com will be active.
Thank you for giving your time and talents to Stoller this school year!
If you have any issues with your device or logging in, you will need to contact the Student Help Desk.
