Cone Added Soon For Safety
I wanted to send a reminder to please take extra care when driving in front of the preschool. Some cars seem to race by without realizing our little preschoolers may be crossing the street to get into school. We will be adding a traffic cone at the crosswalk in front of preschool in the next few weeks to help remind drivers to slow down. Thank you for helping us keep our students safe.

8th Grade Reality Check 2019
8th-Grade Gets a Dose of Reality
8th-grade students got a taste of real-world finances at Jac-Cen-Del High School on Thursday, October 3rd. Students began with opening a checking account and working their way through the stations of financial management. Some of these stations included renting an apartment, buying a car, and opening a credit card. The big take away was the importance of education and being able to plan ahead in order to achieve their life goals. Many students were overheard saying that they needed to go home and thank their parents!
Musical Notes
Why is my child bringing home coloring sheets from music class? Sometimes, the best thing we can do to learn our Christmas songs is to listen! You may not realize it, but these students are learning their Christmas songs for their performance by listening while their hands are engaged in the task of coloring. We can’t wait to sing our sings for you in December!
Inventions
Picture Retakes
Picture retakes for SLS are scheduled on Tuesday, October 22nd. Anyone not happy with their original pictures and wanting retakes will need to bring in their original picture package with them that day to return. If you ordered the "download" version from the original picture day, just bring along your "download instruction card". For any students that were absent on picture day, please stop in the office and pick up a new form from one of us. Thank you!

Year of Mary
This year, St. Louis School is celebrating a Year of Mary.
October 7th is the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, and the Fruit of the Spirit that we will focus upon this month is faithfulness. We will be encouraging our students, staff, school families, and parishioners to pray the rosary during the month of October.
For each rosary that a student, family, or parishioner prays during the month of October, a paper rose will be colored and hung in the school windows. Our hope is that our entire school will be wrapped in roses by the end of October. Paper rose templates will be available in classrooms, the school office, and the back of the church. Please take a paper rose from the back of the church (available soon) or pick up in the office. Once you pray the rosary, you may color your rose, put your name on the back of it, and return it to the school office or place it in the box in the back of the church.
We are attaching prayer intentions for the rosary each week of October as well. The first week of October, any rosaries said may be offered up for our St. Louis parish and community. The second week of October is for our SLS church & school administration and staff. The third week (fall break) is for families and students, and the fourth week is offered for our SLS benefactors.
During the week of October 7th, we will focus on the Joyful Mysteries. Our classes will be saying one decade of the Joyful Mysteries on Monday - Thursday. On Friday, October 11th, our whole school will meet on the playground between school & the garage to pray the last decade of the Joyful Mysteries together. Our 8th-graders will lead us, and any parishioners/parents who would like to join us may do so. This will take place around 9:00 after mass. Please come join us. We will grow closer to Jesus through Mary, our Blessed Mother.

Mrs. Bossert's homeroom rosary
Mrs. Bossert captured a great photo of her class praying the rosary. Our students have done a wonderful job of remembering the rosary this month and getting those roses colored to hang up in the school windows! It's looking beautiful around here!
Veteran's Day Celebration
In anticipation of St. Louis School's Veteran's Day Celebration, Mrs. Pedersen is looking for pictures of your military family members! Photos may be emailed to Mrs. Pedersen (cpedersen@st.louisschool.org) or sent to school with your student to be scanned and returned. Please include relevant information, including their name, branch, years served (if known), and who/how they are related.
If you submitted pictures for a past year's presentation, Mrs. Pedersen is carrying them over! You may email and double check that your service person is included if you do not remember for sure. Pictures must be turned in by Friday, November 1 to be included in this year's presentation.
Also, we are already taking reservations for the Veteran's Day Celebration. If you are interested in attending this year's event, please be sure to let us know by Monday, November 4th. Thank you!

Batesville Lady Bulldogs Youth League
The Batesville Lady Bulldogs Youth League is a great way for young girls in the Batesville area to learn about and work on their basketball skills and have some fun. The league has 2 divisions (3rd and 4th grade division and a 5th and 6th grade division). For girls who are considering playing this year for St. Louis in the 5th and 6th grade, it would be a great jumpstart to the season.
We look forward to seeing the girls grow in their skills and love of the sport. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Bryan Helvie at bhelvie@batesville.k12.in.us.
