News from the classroom
6th grade - On Friday, November 4th the 6th grade will experience Project Adventure! Students will rotate through stations throughout the day that will focus on:
teamwork and collaboration, communication skills, empathy, stress management, relaxation and more! It is sure to be a fun, positive day of learning essential life skills.
In English 7, students finished their reading of the novel A Long Walk to Water and engaged in very insightful conversations and discussions surrounding how our identities are affected by culture, place, time, and how we overcome challenging situations. Students interested in meeting Salva Dut and author Linda Sue Park can attend the Rochester Children's Book Festival at Monroe Community College on Saturday, November 12. The event is free and open to the public. There will be a meet and greet with Salva and Linda Sue at 9:30am which will also include a book signing opportunity.
Sci 7 - Students will be starting the Motion and Force unit this week.
In Social Studies 7 this week, the students will use primary documents about the first Thanksgiving to write a description of how the Pilgrims felt about the event and how the Native Americans joined in the celebration.
Congratulations to....
Congratulations to Cooper Thompson who will also be part of the Jr. High Area All-State that Bloomfield is hosting. He is singing in the chorus. This year the All State concert will be held in Bloomfield at the PAC on November 5th at 2:00 pm.

Community Forum on Youth Anxiety
Speaker: Mike Kephart, Behavioral Intervention Specialist, Ontario ARC
Please join us for a presentation on youth anxiety led by Mike Kephart. This forum will discuss methods and interventions that may assist with decreasing anxiety and improve the likelihood of positive outcomes with your children.
There will be a question and answer period after the presentation.

The Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Ontario County has expanded our educational efforts to include "Community Cafes" that provide communities an opportunity to receive education on the substance abuse and then engage in a dialogue about their needs within their community to address this issue. We have hosted 2 cafes in Naples and are expanding our efforts.
This month, we will be hosting the following cafes and I have attached flyers for your use as you see fit:
Tuesday, November 15th - Phelps Community Café from 6pm - 8pm at the Phelps Community Center (Topic: How did we get here? A brief history of the opioid epidemic in our nation and community)
Monday, November 21st - Naples Community Café from 6pm - 8pm at the Naples Library (Topic: Law Enforcement - how can we collaborate to address this issue?)
Tuesday, November 29th - Victor Community Café from 6pm - 8pm at the Victor Library (Topic: How did we get here? A brief history of the opioid epidemic in our nation and community)
Upcoming Events
- Honk Jr! The middle schoolers have been working hard in preparation for Honk Jr. coming up on November 18 and 19th. 7 PM on the 18th and 2 PM on the 19th.
- Intramural Bowling begins on Monday, November 7th, after school, at Roseland Bowl, and is open to all Middle School Students. Cost is $7.00 per week and includes 3 games and shoe rental. It will continue for 10 Mondays, ending on Feb 13, 2017. Students are encouraged to come practice bowling, enjoy time with their friends and watch the Varsity Bowlers practice. For more information contact the Middle School Office.
8th grade Candy Bar sale will run from Nov 28-Dec 12. Any questions please see Mrs. Romagnola.
Yearbook Holiday Pie Sale. Just in time for Thanksgiving: Frozen 9” pies made from scratch (Apple, Apple Caramel Walnut, Very Berry,Pumpkin,Pecan), $15.00 each. Pies can be picked up at White's Market on November 19 between 9 – noon. Any Student that sells 15 pies will receive a FREE 2017 Yearbook. All checks payable to “The Torch." Please help support the Yearbook. Sale Dates are October 24 – November 15, 2017
No school next Friday, November 11th in honor of Veterans Day.
