What is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD is the development of symptoms following exposure to a traumatic event.

How does it affect someone?

Nightmares

Flashbacks

Avoiding people or places that remind them of the event

Numb

Detatched

Signs and Symptoms

Very stressed

Strong Emotions

Easily irritated

Jitters

Trouble sleeping, eating, and concentrating

How is it diagnosed?

PTSD is usually not diagnosed unless the person experiencing it tells a doctor and without help symptoms can last for months or years.

How is it treated?

It is treated by talking to a professional about the traumatic event. Many people avoid talking about it because it feels uncomfortable or make them feel crazy but it is the best thing to do.
