Second Grade- THURSDAY NIGHT - 5:30
Meet Mrs. Carr, Your Kinder, First & Second Grade Assistant Principal
I am truly honored to work with the entire learning community at Bethke Elementary. As one of our Assistant Principals, I have the pleasure of teaming specifically with our youngest learners – Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. Our entire staff is looking forward to do whatever it takes to advance the achievement of all students on our campus. Working together, I am confident that we will provide our scholars with truly challenging, inspiring, and enriching experiences. I have been an active member of the Katy Independent School District for the past twenty-five years; I have also served an additional two years in Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. I spent ten years as a classroom teacher – first and third grades. My journey also includes years as a Specials teacher (Reading through Technology), Instructional Technology Facilitator, Instructional Coach (both English/Language Arts & Math/Science), and most recently an Assistant Principal. To say that I have enjoyed learning and growing in each capacity would be an understatement. I truly feel that I have been blessed to partner with some of the brightest learners/leaders on multiple Katy ISD campuses! The elementary school years are important and critical times for students. What happens during these years will have a lasting impression on their growth and development. I know this to be true because my own child is a Cinco Ranch High School/Katy ISD 2016 graduate. My son, Austin, attends the University of Michigan, majoring in mechanical engineering. My husband and I believe Austin was absolutely prepared for this challenging college coursework due to the strong academic base provided by Katy ISD. Rest assured your learner has a wonderful future ahead with what Bethke Elementary/Katy ISD curriculum will provide. I am confident that Bethke Elementary is a place where our students learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally. It is my pleasure to work closely with our Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade families. My goal as Assistant Principal is to provide the leadership that will facilitate a school environment that is safe and supportive, in order for your learner to receive the best possible journey. It has been such a joy to partner with so many of our Bethke families the last three years. Our learners are making amazing things happen due to strong partnerships between students, families, and educators! Feel free to stop by and say hello. I want to make sure I get to know each of our new Bethke families! You will see me at car rider drop-off spots daily; give me a wave or a hello. If there is anything I can do to help your learner or your family, please let me know.
Respectfully,
Kelley Carr

Meet Mr. Fruge, Your Assistant Principal for Third, Fourth & Fifth Grades
Hello Bethke Family,
It is my pleasure to serve as one of your Assistant Principals at Bethke Elementary. I have had the honor to build lasting relationships with our families while working alongside some of the most talented educators in Katy ISD. Only four short years ago, Bethke Elementary opened with just over 650 students, and we grew to over 1,400 this past school year. In the same four years, we have witnessed our first kindergarten students excel and grow into mature, third grade learners. It will be exciting to continue to see them, and all of our students, grow to achieve their fullest potential.
This fall marks my eleventh year in Katy, and in public education. I grew up in public education and am one of many current, and past public school educators in my family. My wife, Amanda, and I moved to Katy in the summer of 2008 to be closer to family. We met in college at Tarleton State University, and were married shortly after graduating. Amanda and I have celebrated 16 years of marriage. Amanda works in the fashion eyewear industry and is an amazing mother to our children, Addison (10), and Anden (9). Both of our children attend our neighborhood school, Katy Elementary. We have made Katy our home, and enjoy the community around us. I pledge to help your children, and you, come to know and enjoy our school community through an amazing educational experience. I value your feedback, and would enjoy helping in any way I can. Please feel free to contact me at michaelafruge@katyisd.org
Sincerely,
Andy Frugé
Our Five Rules!
We use "5 Rules" from Whole Brain Teaching. Your child should be able to model this for you. Having consistency throughout our building with these rules, helps our students understand expectations and creates a happy place for all to learn.
Here are the 5 Rules--- + the "Diamond Rule!" Ask your child to recite them for you and we appreciate you reinforcing them with us.
Rule #1--Follow Directions Quickly
Rule #2--Raise your Hand for Permission to Speak
Rule #3--Raise your Hand for Permission to Leave Your Seat
Rule #4--Make Smart Choices
Rule #5--Keep Your Learning Environment Happy
Diamond Rule--Keep Your Eye on the Target
School-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an approach to teaching and supporting positive behaviors and meeting the needs of ALL students. This school-wide approach to discipline focuses on building a safe and positive environment in which all students can learn.
The foundation of PBIS at Bethke Elementary is BISON:
· Be Respectful
· Include Integrity
· Stay Safe
· Own Your Choices
· Never Give Up
In addition to our behavior expectations, PBIS has four other components: 1) a behavior matrix which explains behavior expectations in each school setting; 2) direct teaching of the expectations; 3) PBIS recognition cards (Bison Bucks); and 4) Reflection sheets to record and address inappropriate behaviors.
Bison Bucks
Students who are following school expectations in the various locations of the building can earn Bison Bucks.
· Once received, the students save their bucks until they earn enough to redeem for a reward of their choice from the incentive chart for their grade level.
· Visit our website to view the incentive charts: http://www.katyisd.org/campus/cbe/Pages/default.aspx
Consequences for Inappropriate Behavior
At times, children may not make the best behavior choices and need redirection. To address unexpected behavior, a campus wide continuum of consequences will be implemented.
1. General reminder/verbal warning will be given about expected behavior.
2. A brief private student-teacher conference will occur to discuss behavior expectations.
3. Student will be asked to move to the reflection area in the classroom to complete a behavior reflection sheet, which we will be sent home for parent signature. The student returns to normal seat after completed.
4. Teacher will make a parent phone call.
5. An office referral will be sent to the assistant principal.
** Certain actions warrant immediate
administrative involvement such as fighting, possession of contraband or weapons, harassment and threats
Track your child's Bus!
The Katy ISD Transportation Department is exited to communicate that all 2019 – 2020 route buses will be equipped with GPS systems. With the new GPS systems, parents, campuses and Transportation personnel will be able to track buses in real-time through a downloadable application from Edulog. Parents and patrons having children riding buses in Katy ISD, the link below contains information on how to download the application. We look forward to working with our parents and campuses as we continue to find new ways to improve safety, efficiency, and responsiveness within the Transportation Department.
