Carlisle Library
December 2017
Dear Coyotes,
The month of December is going to be full of fun and excitement. Next week in the library, we are going to join millions of kids throughout the world in participating in the Hour of Code, a challenge launched by the creators of code.org. Their mission is to get computer science courses integrated into the curriculum of every K-12 school in the United States. Statistics say that computing jobs are the #1 source of new wages in the United States and these jobs are projected to grow at twice the rate of all other jobs. One of the opportunities I have as a librarian is to foster 21st century skills in students and to expose them to all different types of literacy. Having our students participate in the Hour of Code is a perfect platform for this. We have participated in the Hour of Code for the last few years, and the kids absolutely love it!
After next week, we will be doing various Makerspace activities where the students will get to continue practicing coding, building, solving fun problems and applying their creative abilities in a variety of ways.
