Featured Grade Levels, Departments and Events!
Each month we highlight a grade level, department or group that strives to share our District's story with the community.
NRHS Social Studies Department
This month we have chosen to highlight the NRHS Social Studies Department.
This month, our UWRF Principles of Psychology and Psychology students learned in a variety of ways! They learned about the Rorschach inkblot and even got to create their own. To test their knowledge, UWRF Psychology students completed the marshmallow challenge. Students demonstrated their group thinking, divergent thinking, functional fixedness and much more! Additionally, the students had a lot of fun making their own hand crafted Sock Babies! The students in Ms. Erickson's 7th Hour UWRF Psychology class became proud "parents" as they cared for their Sock Babies.
NRMS Physical Education Department
This month we have chosen to highlight the NRMS Physical Education Department.
The Middle School Physical Education classes have been having fun playing Badminton! The students are enjoying the game inside of the gymnasium, but can't wait for warm weather to take over so that they can go outside. Students played Badminton singles, doubles, and also participated in a class round-robin competition. They are learning the many rules within the game of Badminton. The next unit will take the students to the tennis courts to play one of the fastest growing sports in the United States, Pickleball!
Hillside 2nd Grade Classes
This month, Hillside 2nd Graders read the story "Corduroy." Once they read the story in class, the students also were able to take a trip to the Children's Theater to go see "Corduroy" the play. The Hillside 2nd Graders also talked about the problem and solution strategy as well as the ways Corduroy tried to solve his problem on his own. Learning the many problem solving lessons from Corduroy was a great way for the students to understand problem solving methods. Later on, the students also made creative writing pieces where they created their own stuffed bear and had them go on their own adventure in a closed toy store! The students had a lot of laughs at the many experiences around the theme of "Corduroy"!
Paperjack Kindergarten Classes
Paperjack Elementary Kindergarten Classes are learning about persuasive writing along with celebrating Earth Day. They made t-shirts to persuade people to keep our Earth clean! The Kindergarten Classes hope that everyone will be persuaded to get out and do something for our planet! Happy Earth Day from Mrs. Averill’s, Mrs. Lodahl’s, and Mrs. Parent’s Kindergarten students!
Starr 1st Grade Classes
The Starr 1st Graders have been working hard on Reader's Theater throughout the month of April. The students have been practicing their reading fluency and have greatly enjoyed being creative during the Reader's Theater exercises. Reader’s Theater is a great way for students to practice reading aloud by reading scripts created from grade-level books, Fairytales and fun stories. Students were placed into groups and provided a character and script for them to practice. They spent time in their groups reading their parts to one another. Once students had enough time reading over their script, they performed their story in front of the rest of the class. Sometimes students were given the chance to create or use puppet props to add to their performance!
