Wiggin Street Parent Update

October 14, 2022

Better Together

Families,

The fall leaves create a beautiful backdrop at Wiggin Street. There are lots of happenings this month so make sure to check them all out in this update! We are also looking forward to seeing all of you at Parent/Teacher Conferences. If you have not scheduled a conference yet, please reach out to your child's teacher. It's so important that we have these conversations and work as a team for your children.

We will be painting 4-square and other activities on the playground Sunday, October 23rd at 1:00 pm. More volunteers are needed, so please let me know if you are available to help. The rain date will be October 30th.

Lastly, your child should have brought home a pre-order form for Richard Cowdrey's children's books. Learn more below about his upcoming visit.

Have a wonderful and safe weekend!

Best wishes,

Christy Grandstaff

Pumpkins on Parade

Beginning at 5 pm on Tuesday, October 25th, your family is invited to bring a blanket or chairs to sit on the sidewalk outside the Wiggin Street gymnasium to decorate a pumpkin. Each child or family needs to bring their own pumpkin and Friends of Wiggin Street will provide decorations and snacks. Parents are expected to stay with their children and help them to create a boo-tiful pumpkin creation. The event will last from 5-7 pm. You will also have the opportunity to browse the Scholastic Book Fair in the gym.

Fall Harvest Parade and Parties

We are excited for our parade and parties on October 31st! Children are invited to participate in our annual costume parade. The parade will begin at 2:15 with parties following. The exception is 3rd grade who has a party before the parade due to specials from 2:45-3:30.

Costumes should come to school in a bag and children should be able to get in and out of their costumes easily. (If you feel your child needs help with his/her costume, please contact the classroom teacher.) Please make sure that there are no scary costumes because of our younger students. There should be no Halloween masks. No pretend weapons of any kind are permitted at school even as a part of the costume. Please save those for trick-or-treat night.

We ask parents not to pass out treats along the route, however some of the local businesses may pass out candy to kids. Any treats brought to school for the class parties must be individually wrapped.

2022 Thrive Kids Video

Thrive Kids

“I am a LEADER!”

Thank you to all the students who came out for our Fall session of Thrive Kids! The students did an excellent job of showing up each week ready to move their bodies and strengthen their mind! Throughout the 6 week program we focused on the different attributes of a leader and how we can be a leader no matter the circumstance!

The students completed a re-test of the 1 minute run so make sure to ask your child how they improved throughout the weeks!

Thank you for your support and we will see you in the Spring!

Keep moving, have fun, and DO HARD THINGS!

Richard Cowdrey- Visiting Author/Illustrator

We are excited to share that Richard Cowdrey, bestselling author and illustrator of the Fiona the Hippo series and Gambier resident, will be visiting all of MVCSD Elementary Schools during the month of December!

The Fiona book series is based on the beloved hippo born at the Cincinnati Zoo. Cowdrey's children's books "Bad Dog, Marley" and "A Very Marley Christmas" also made him a New York Times No. 1 Bestselling illustrator.

He will visit Wiggin Street on December 8th, and the pre-order books are planned to arrive in time for the visit. This is a great opportunity to have a book for a signed copy. These orders are due by November 1st.

Lost and Found

Fall has arrived! Please remind your student to get their sweatshirts and jackets from lost and found. You can also submit this form to let us know what you are looking for, and we will do our best to get it to your child.

Remember that it is helpful to label all jackets, lunchboxes, bookbags, etc.
