Woman Role Model

Jeannette O'Brien

My woman role model is my Mother. My Mom is the strongest, bravest, and most loving person I know. My Mom, Jeannette, was born in Chicago and has lived here all her life. My Grandma had my Mom when she was only 16. When my Mom was 4 years old her father passed away. My Grandma, Mom and Uncle all lived in a basement apartment with barely any furniture. My Mom and her brother both had to sleep on a twin bed. My Grandma struggled to make ends meat. My Grandma dropped out of high school to take care of her kids, this made it hard to find any jobs. She would have to rely on various neighbors to watch my Mom and Uncle most of the time. My Mom became a Chicago Playboy Bunny at age 18 till 22. At age 30 my Mom went into the Police Academy. After 6 months in the Police Academy she was sworn in and has been on the job for 21 years.

My Dad was diagnosed with Frontal Lobe Dementia 4 years ago. It has progressed over the past years. In February he was placed in a nursing home. My Mom has practically been raising me and my brother as a single parent for as long as I can remember. My Mom has made it though all the hard times and still manages to do everything in her power to make me and my brother happy. This is one of the many ways she has influenced me. I am not always as grateful as I should be to have her. But she is the most important person in my life and I don't know what I would do without her. I look up to her for being so strong through everything. I admire her for being so brave through her job. I am so grateful to have this amazing woman role model in my life.
