Basic Academy Reopening Newsletter

August 19, 2020

General Information

Hello Wolves and Families,

We are just around the corner for our students first day. As we move closer I am trying to consolidate the information in one document and location. We have created the Virtual Student Success Guide so that its a one stop shop for important information (Bell Schedule, Calendar, Password Resets, Resources, etc.) and important contact numbers. The guide is also a live document so when we receive updates or information that needs to be communicated to our students it may be done in a timely manner and quickly accessible. This newsletter will continue to go out when we have changes or new information regarding Distance Education and Basic Academy Happenings.

Tomorrow we will be holding our Virtual Orientation for students and families. This orientation is a welcome to Basic with information regarding our school and Distance Education. It is also an opportunity to meet the administrative team. Please note that the links below are updated and are different than what was previously provided. We also want to inform that the platform only allows for 250 participants at one time. If you are unable to attend the meet, it will be recorded and posted for you to view at a convenient time.

We are continuing our efforts to deploy Chromebooks to all who have expressed a need. Our inventory has been depleted, however, we have made arrangements with another high school to transfer Chromebooks from their excessive inventory and get them into our students hands. Those who were on our wait list will be contacted for device pickup. Our District is committed to do our very best in getting devices in our students hands.

I appreciate your time in viewing our newsletter and appreciate your feedback and participation.

We are Basic Academy...We are BASIC STRONG!

Be You...Be Strong...Be Great!

Thank you,

Mr. Bustamante

Student Schedules

Students' schedules are now available to be viewed in Infinite Campus. Should students have questions or concerns they may fill out the Schedule Request Form from the link below.

As in any year, the first few weeks are spent in leveling classes which is based on student enrollment. This doesn't impact all students and we make every attempt to minimize any disruption in schedules.

Stronger Together

As a school community we will all be a driving piece in this new endeavor. As a community we will become the support system needed to navigate through all the intricacies that this will bring. During the first week in our staff's professional development, there has been frustrations, tears, and fear. However, as the days went by our staff was coming together, providing support, sharing ideas, and sharing small victories. As much as we can view the situation with the glass half empty, the small victories were inspiring. It was a pleasure watching our staff become stronger together. I'm very proud of the amount of effort and care they have put in to learn this new normal. As much as we prepare, in Distance Education it will take the school community to work together in making sure our students stay engaged as active participants.

As a school community in distance learning, we must hold to these three values, patience, compassion, and understanding. Holding these three values in the forefront will allow us to have a continuous motion and not get "stuck in mud". Support from all levels will be possible and our students will succeed and benefit the most. I look forward to our school community become stronger together.

WE are Basic Academy...WE ARE Basic Strong!

Be You...Be Strong...Be Great!
