Cultivating Critical Thinking and Creativity in Responsive Learning Environments
The last month has been filled with lots of activity! Last week, the Kindergarten students hosted a Mother's Day Spa. It was precious to see our Kindergarten moms getting pampered! What a fun way for students to feel special and be able to say thanks to their moms!
For the first time ever, our Grade 2-5 students (with some older student leaders) participated in the Celebration of Dance with 3000 participants from across the area at Fort Henry. Students practiced dances ahead and so were able to follow along. This has been a fun way to get fit and fulfill expectations in our Dance curriculum!
About 30 students in Grades 2-8 participated in the LCVI Road Race. They handled a change in route and muddy conditions with grace and had a fantastic day. We are proud of all our runners! Thank you to Mrs. Roberts and Ms. Collins for your organization and encouragement.
Track and Field is in full swing! Students in Grades 3-8 are able to practice and try out for a variety of events: sprinting and distance running, high jump, shot put, long jump and triple jump. This is a true team effort with many staff volunteering time to coach these events. And a HUGE thanks to Mrs. Roberts who is organizing!
I would like to take the opportunity to thank Barb Morris, our Primary Lunch Yard Supervisor, for her volunteer work with many of our classes to help students create beautiful works of art! These are on display near the gym throughout the year.
Our Jump Rope for Heart event is this coming Thursday. Students are reminded to bring in pledges for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Our students are fortunate to have many field trips scheduled for this spring! Please return forms as promptly as possible. If you have concerns about paying the cost, please pay what you can. We do not want any students to miss out on these enriching opportunities due to financial concerns.
Finally, I would like to let you all know about a change that will be in effect next school year. Our school will be twinned with Glenburnie Public School. Our schools remain completely different schools that run separately except they will share a Principal and Vice Principal. I will remain as Principal for both sites and we will have a new VP that will also be the half time Student Support Teacher at Joyceville. At this point, I am not sure how we will divide our time between the two schools. However, I can assure you that I remain fully committed to JPS and will be very involved! Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
