Principal's Post - A Weekly Note From Mr. Ortman
Happy Friday,
Thank you to all of our Mill Creek families that braved the frigid temperatures to attend the inaugural Celebration of our Schools event last night that was held at Central Bucks High School South. Some of our Creekers participated in the event and shined through amazing artwork, technology skills, and video presentations. It was a terrific event that highlighted Central Bucks School District!
As always, thank you for your support. It is greatly appreciated.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Shawn M. Ortman
Principal

Happy Friday Creekers!
Congratulations to Mrs. Ruth's class for attending the Mill Creek Café last week! This group of fourth grade students consistently demonstrated all of the CREEKERS' Code traits each week in the cafeteria! Keep up the great work Creekers!

Black History Month
During February, to celebrate Black History Month, we will be showcasing and learning about influential black men and women who have made, and who are making, history with their contributions to our world. In the library, students will be able to explore books by featured authors. Staff have access to online and print resources to share with students, including picture books for classes to read and share. Influential figures will also be featured on a Wall of Honor in the hallway and during announcements each day.
In our curriculum, students have the opportunity to access and explore information on black historical figures who have made a positive difference in the world. These experiences are often in the Reading and Social Studies content areas. Our Reading program highlights a focus on famous black heroes, such as Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, and George Washington Carver, to name a few. The Social Studies program features opportunities for students to investigate and explore the struggles of African Americans in the history of the United States.
Additionally, teachers across the grade levels utilize resources such as Brain Pop, Newsela, Scholastic News, and films to supplement, extend, and enrich the learning that is provided in our curricular materials. Teachers also utilize other times, such as Morning Meeting, to make connections, discuss relevant current issues, and discover opportunities to dig deeper into a topic. Much is done outside of the month of February through planned curricular activities and projects surrounding holidays or major events, such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Throughout the month of February, ask you child about our Wall of Honor and what books they have explored. We will spotlight books and other resources in our newsletter each week this month.
Our hope is that each and every month our students focus on the traits of the CREEKERS' Code, and that they are respectful to all and appreciative of the gifts and differences that make us all human.
