Cultivating Genius: Our Gifts, Our Glory!
Wednesday, January 20th
From the Desk of the CEO & Principal
Greetings Global Academies Families and Staff-
What a historic moment today was! We hope that you and your family had the opportunity to tune in, to engage, and to discuss the beauty of our democracy on display. We always tell our scholars that representation matters. Today, they were able to witness a woman who looks like them be sworn in as vice-president. How powerful!
Today, even if just for the day, let's be reminded that there is power in celebration and elation. Hope always prevails. Our peace and our joy must be protected at all cost.
We shared an inauguration viewing for young people and hope that you had a chance to check it out. We will also continue to use class this week to provide a space for scholars to share their reflections.
If you come across resources that you believe would be of value to share with our school community, we encourage you to share.
As always, we hope you and those you love are healthy, safe and well. Please set aside some time to read through this week's updates. Till next time!
Sincerely,
Dr. Naomi Johnson Booker, CEO/Executive Director
Ms. Shoshana Tyler, Principal

A Dr. Martin Luther King Challenge from Global Academies
We need Dr. King’s words and example now as much as we did then. His prophetic message of hope through nonviolence has resonated in the hearts and minds of so many urging them on to the cathartic work of service for the common good.
My mother, Audrey Johnson-Thornton was driven to service by Dr. King's example. Her work included saving the Historic Belmont Mansion, a landmark Underground Railroad site, from being demolished by the City. She contributed so much to Philadelphia, and as a result of her work, she was honored by the Philadelphia Martin Luther King Association for Nonviolence.
My mother has gone home to the Lord. I know in my heart that she and Dr. King are in the same place, watching to see how we continue their pursuit of equity and justice.
Have you inherited memories or memoirs of a loved one who fought for civil rights, offered a voice for those who could not speak for themselves, or served others in any capacity? We stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before us as we move forward, doing what we've been called to do. As we reflect on the legacies of Dr. King and our loved ones, let us commit to making service to others a lifestyle rather than an annual event.
Yours truly,
Dr. Naomi Johnson Booker
