Arrival Reminders

During morning arrival, if your child is a car rider, Coleman's procedure is for you to drop your child off in the back carline. The front entrance is designated for bus drop-off, daycare drop-off, and walkers. Walkers are defined as students walking from nearby neighborhoods that don't qualify for transportation through the district. We don't allow for car drop-off due to the safety of our students crossing the parking lot.

Please be mindful that school starts at 7:30 a.m. and it is important for your student to be here and in class on time.

If you arrive after the back car line has finished, then please drive around to the front of the school and walk your child into the building to complete the late arrival QR code. For safety reasons, students should not be dropped off out front alone or left unattended outside.

Attendance Incentive

It is so important for our students to be at school each day. Each class is working towards completing their JCE Strong challenge. Every day that all students in the class are present they will be able to color a letter. When all letters are colored then they will receive a class reward of their choice.

Texas 90% Attendance and Truancy Rules

The Texas attendance rules say that a student has to be in a class at least 90% of the time if they want to be sure to get credit for that class. This rule applies even if your child has an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Section 504 plan.

Credit Recovery

If a student has excessive absences (17 days absent) or excessive tardies (more than 10 days tardy), they will be given an opportunity to regain credit by completing a credit recovery plan approved by the principal that provides the student an opportunity to regain instructional requirements.

Attendance: If your child is absent, please email our Attendance Clerk, Christi Piekos, at christi.piekos@misd.gs. Doctor's notes may be sent via email or brought to the office within 48 hours of the absence.

Procedures for Transportation Changes

Let's talk about transportation changes. If you need to communicate a change in transportation, PLEASE call the front office at 469-856-6700 and inform Ms.Cindy about the change before 2:00 pm. Ms. Cindy will communicate that with your child's teacher with a pink note or phone call to their classroom. If the teacher does not get a phone call or a pink note from Ms. Cindy, the teacher will send your child home the previously communicated way.
