Powering through May!

We have hit the ground running with track-in last week! Let's power through May with all the learning and celebrations planned at school!

Sunday, April 30:
  • 3-5 PM ~ Chalk your appreciation for our teachers on campus! Sign up here!
Monday, May 1:
  • Principal Appreciation Day! Today is a great day for Words of Affirmation! Send Ms. Wilson an email or a card about something positive you've noticed this year!

Monday, May 1 - Friday, May 5:

  • Teacher Appreciation Week!! See the flyer below with all the fun stuff PTA has planned! This year--instead of suggesting something for your child to bring in each day--we are asking parents to simply reach out to their teachers with a heartfelt note--handwritten or emailed--to let them know how much you appreciate them! Say something specific! If you want to do more, please sign up to stock the teacher's lounge or send some snacks in for the kids in need in your class!

  • Early release day; dismissal at 12:20

Last PTA meeting of the year on Tuesday, May 16!

Please plan to attend the last PTA meeting of the year on Tuesday, May 16 at 6PM in the Media Center. We will also have a virtual option. At this meeting, we will elect the officers for next year. We must have a quorum (at least 20 members) for this election to uphold. Our slate is as follows:

Around West Lake last month!

Nature trail stairs renovated!

Middle Creek High School senior, Samuel Lohmeyer, a former WLES Wallaby, renovated the stairs to the WLES nature trail during track out. Samuel did this work as part of his senior project to help address the problem of children having limited outdoor time. Many thanks to Samuel for helping our school get out into nature!!

Teacher workday lunch

While the rest of us were enjoying the last few days of track out, our hard working teachers and staff were in the building getting things done and working through State-mandated LETRS training. The PTA delivered pizza, fruit, cookies, and drinks so they could keep on working! Thanks to all our PTA members for making teacher morale a priority at WLES!

Earth days!

Many thanks to our volunteers for making WLES more green! They took down overgrown brush, weeded raised beds, planted seeds and seedlings, donated soil, plants, and time! Special thanks to Mrs. McClain for getting the initiative going, to Kayla Albertson for giving so much of her time and expertise to the specialists' gardens, and to Shanna Kane for designing our magnet! (We'll have a clean-up day in the fall where you can get a magnet, too, when you come to volunteer!) Ask your student if they see plants growing in a garden bed on campus!

Save the Date for the 5th grade promotion ceremony!

5th grade yard signs

Did you know that your PTA buys a yard sign for each fifth grader? These are presented at the drive-through promotion ceremony by their teachers on June 27. Just keeping all you fifth grade parents in the loop so you don’t go out and buy signs instead!
