Signs of Suicide
The School Counseling Department will be teaching the signs of suicide during PE9 classes. If parents or students would like to opt-out, they just need to let their PE teacher know and they will return to PE. Counselors will ask students if anyone wants to opt out before the start of the lesson.

Applications for the Career and Technical Center are now open! Please click here for a detailed list of all programs that are offered. Students must be logged into their accounts in order to access the form. Applications are due by March 4. Please reach out to your school counselor with any questions.
It's Scheduling Time!!!
Attention Students
It's time to start thinking about which courses you want to take next school year.
Course selection forms will be handed out during grade-level meetings. Grade-level meetings are scheduled during focus on the following dates:
- Sophomores- January 25th
- Freshmen- February 1st
- Juniors- February 8th
Counselors will be meeting with students individually for course selections during the following weeks:
- Sophomores-week of January 29th
- Freshmen- week of February 5th
- Juniors-week of February 12th

WIDA ACCESS Test
All English Language Learners (ELLs) in the state of Virginia are required to take an annual test to evaluate their English proficiency. The purpose of the test is to measure the improvement and proficiency of each language domain (Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing) from one year to the next. Your child, if an ELL, will be taking part in this battery of tests. There are four components to the test: Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing. The test will take place during the weeks of January 22nd – March 7th
If you have any specific questions or concerns regarding this test, please contact your child’s ESOL teacher or the school testing coordinator at his/her school.
Upcoming Events
Driver Education Meeting
The driver education dept will hold its final 90 minute mandatory parent/teen meeting on Jan 29, 2024. It is going to be held in the SHS auditorium from 6-7:30PM with doors opening and registration beginning at 5:30 PM in the commons. This meeting is open to both this year and last year's students that still need to fulfill this requirement.
Attention Rising Knights
Immunization Clinic
Rappahannock Area Health Department will be here at SHS on March 28, 2024, to provide school-required immunizations (Tdap, Meningococcal ACWY, and HPV) to rising 12 graders. Consent forms will be mailed to the parents of all rising 12th-grade students. These forms must be completed in their entirety and given to SHS clinic nurse by February 16. Please take advantage of this easy way of obtaining your required school immunizations.
Forms will go out on January 29.

SHS Athletics
Pass Information
Tickets for all Home Athletic Events are available in advance at gofan.co for $7. Tickets can be purchased at the gate via Credit Card for $7. All Cash Tickets at the gate are $8.
Senior Citizens over the age of 65 are eligible for a Lifetime Battlefield District pass, gaining them entry into ALL Battlefield District Regular Season events. Show proof of age at the gate and get yours at any SHS event.
Ten Event Passes go on sale Monday during lunch shifts and will be available at the gate for all SHS Home games. Ten Event passes are $65 and are good for all Regular Season Home Events.
Student Athletic Passes go on sale Monday during lunch shifts! Student passes are good for every SHS, regular season athletic contests, for the duration of the school year. Just $50, grab yours soon!
It's Game Time!!
Reminder to all fans attending Athletic Events at SHS. It is Battlefield District policy that no bags are to be brought into any event. Exceptions for small, clutch purses (5" x 7"), medical equipment bags, and diaper bags for families with small children. No outside food or drink is permitted inside the gates, as well. Spotsylvania County Schools also prohibit pets on campus, which includes at our indoor or outdoor athletic events. We also ask that for the safety of all patrons, balls of any kind or other outside sporting equipment be left at home and not thrown, kicked, or batted around within the confines at Athletic events. Thank you for your support!
