About queen Victoria:
Queen Victoria was the daughter and only child of Edward, Edward died when she was 8 months old and Victoria's mother became the major influence in her life. Upon her father's death, Victoria became the heir to take the throne, after King William IV died in June 1837, Victoria took the throne at the age of 18. Victoria's prime minister helped her learn how to become a constitutional monarch since she was so young.
Marriage:
Queen Victoria married her cousin, Prince Albert, who at first the British parliament didn't like and gave him little to no political position. There were times, like any marriage, when Victoria and Albert didn't get along because of their two extremely different personalities, but they were very devoted to each other and had nine children together. Prince Albert also helped Victoria "navigate political waters". In 1861, Albert died of Typhoid fever after suffering for several years. Victoria was devastated and went into a 25 year seclusion.
What happened while she was in charge?
Great Britain experienced a great expansion in industry, they built railways, bridges, underground sewers, and there was also power distributed throughout most of the empire. Charles Darwin also came up with the theory of evolution, the telegraph and popular press were invented, literacy was increased, government formed to conservative and liberal parties.
When did Victoria rule?
From June 20, 1837 to her death on January 22, 1901
Where did she rule?
Queen Victoria was the Queen of the British Monarch for 63 years!!
