Tabling will happen on Wednesday, April 4th from 11:30am to 12:30pm.
Disordered Eating
Disordered eating is when a person’s attitudes about food, weight, and body size lead to very rigid eating and exercise habits that jeopardize one's health, happiness, and safety. Eating concerns and disorders affect people from all ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, gender identities and sexualities. It is never too early to ask for help about eating concerns.
You should not attempt to address disordered eating alone. Discussing the feelings you’re experiencing can provide essential comfort, support, and direction.
Body Image
Body image is how you see yourself when you look in the mirror or when you picture yourself in your mind.
Many of us internalize messages starting at a young age that can lead to either positive or negative body image.
Having a healthy body image is an important part of mental well-being and eating disorders prevention. Try these tips to improve your body image:
- Treat your body with respect.
- Give it enough rest.
- Fuel it with a variety of foods.
- Exercise moderately.
- Resist the pressure to judge yourself and others based on weight, shape, or size.
- Respect people based on the qualities of their character and accomplishments, rather than just because of their appearance.
Help is Available!
Counseling Services offers a free and confidential screening to help detect eating disorders. While we do facilitate one screening day per term, you can contact us at any time to take a screening and meet briefly with a counselor to discuss your results, recommendations, and answer questions you may have. Call us at 309-341-7492 or send an email to counseling@knox.edu.
