Tips To Improve Memory

By: Ashlyn Rojas

Why I chose this topic-

I chose this topic because I thought it would be interesting to learn how I can improve on my memory. I have always been the person in my family that forgets everything and I think it would be cool if I could change that by learning some tips on memory.

About my topic-

People use some of these tips to improve their memory-
~Eat right
~Stop multitasking
~Get a good nights sleep
~Play more brain games
~Learn a new skill
~Try mnemonic devices- these are things that can help you memorize words and concepts ect.

The Brain-

~Vitamin D can increase nerve growth in your brain, and researchers have located metabolic pathways for vitamin D in the hippocampus and cerebellum of the brain. In adults, research has shown that low vitamin D levels can result in poorer brain function, and increasing levels can help leave older adults with better memory.

~Contrary to what people think, the main source of your brain is not glucos, it is ketones. Ketones is the fat that your body mobilizes when you stop feeding it carbs and introduce coconut oil and other foods like healthy fats into your diet. A one-day fast can help your body to restart tself, and start to burn fat instead of sugar.

~Choline is a very important nutrient your body makes in small amounts. However, you must consume it through your diet to get enough. In adults, choline helps keep your cell membranes functioning properly,it helps the nerve communications, prevents the buildup of homocysteine in your blood and reduces chronic inflammation.

The Research & Psycholgist-

Hermann Ebbinghaus began the scientific study of human memory. Ebbinghaus experimented on himself by testing his own skills to memorize lists of random syllables shown at regular speed of 2.5 syllables per second. He recorded how long it took him to memorize a list of syllables and also how quickly he would lose the memory. With this data, he traced learning and forgetting curves.

Fun Facts-

~The cool thing with memorization is that anyone can have a better memory if you just use some of the tips I listed above.
~A interesting experiment i read about was if you were studying for a test or anything and you are listening to a specific song and that song comes on when you are taking the test you are more likely to remember the information. This is because the brain connected the song with what you were memorizing!
