Thank you!
The video from the Lunar New Year Parade (see below) inadvertently captured my parting words..."I love you all...forever a Dragon...always be in my heart...I'll always be a Daily Dragon!"
Thank you again for the pleasure and honor of serving the Daily community these past three and a half years.
Go Dragons!!!
2023 Lunar Year Parade
Thank you to everyone who came out and watched our Lunar New Year Parade last Friday. We were so happy that the rain stayed away! Huge shoutouts to Ms. Chau, Ms. Viktorin, and PTO for securing the lion dance company! Another huge shoutout to Ms. Perez for helping our students create their own lion heads and decorations for the parade! A great time was had by all!
Parent Night Out and Valentine Gift Grams
We are excited to announce a partnership between our PTO and Champions, our before and after school care provider, to offer our families a Parent Night Out!
On Saturday, February 11, Champions will be providing childcare between 4:30 and 7:30 pm at Daily Elementary for the low flat rate of $20 per child. That means for $20, you can drop your child off for 30 min or for the entire 3 hours while you do whatever it is you want to do! Any child aged 4 and above can attend. Champions is donating all their costs for this partnership, which means every dollar will go directly to our PTO to help support our school!
Champions will provide many activities for the children to participate in. They will be able to spend time outside (weather pending) and in the gym. Additionally, Champions has many games, books, and may also show a movie. Food will also be provided.
You do NOT need to be already registered with Champions to take advantage of this amazing opportunity! To have your child participate, you must first purchase a ticket either online at www.raykdailypto.com or at the PTO store with the form that will be sent home in your child’s backpack. Once purchased, the PTO will give you a promotional code for free registration with Champions. This registration, while required, will in no way commit you to any before or after school care services. It is just to make sure Champions will have all your child’s pertinent health information and emergency contacts to give them the best care.
Email dailypto@gmail.com with any questions!
We only have 65 slots available! So, act fast!
Valentine Gift Grams
The PTO will be selling Valentine Gift Grams for $3! The gift can be either a sugar cookie or a heart shaped pop-it fidget toy. Valentine Gift Grams will be delivered to classrooms on February 14 and can include a personalized message. You can purchase a Valentine Gift Gram for a student, a teacher, or a staff member! These can be ordered online at www.raykdailypto.com or with the form that will be sent home in student’s backpacks.

Attendance - 90% Rule
Students who have accumulated more than 10% unexcused or excused absences in their courses during the school year will have asterisks printed on their report cards next to the courses in which the excessive absences occurred. Per the Texas Education Code (25.092) and FEC (LOCAL), a minimum attendance requirement of 90% of class meetings for the award of course credit.
The 90% rule is a provision in the Texas Education Code (TEC) that applies to a student in any grade level from kindergarten through 12. TEC Section 25.092 provides that a student may NOT be given credit or a final grade for a class unless the student is in 90% of the class is offered. Students who lose credit due to excessive absences may appeal if the student achieves an average of 70 or above at the end of the semester in which the no-credit (NG) status appears.
What absences count under the 90% rule?
ALL absences count, whether excused or non-excused, in determining whether the student has attended the requisite number of days to receive class credit or a final grade. According to the Texas Education Agency the 90% attendance requirement in Section 25.092 applies regardless of whether the student is exempt from compulsory attendance or whether the absence excused.
Every day counts!
PreK Lottery for the 2023 - 2024 School Year
All applications for PreK must be completed on the School Choice site on the HISD portal at https://www.houstonisd.org/Page/177890. Due to the limited spaces, PreK enrollment is based on a lottery process.
Parents are able to submit applications online for their child to attend PreK at Daily Elementary starting today through February 2, 2023. Parents will be notified if their child received a place in the lottery on April 5, 2023. Then, if the space is accepted, the student needs to be tested and paperwork checked to ensure the student qualifies for pre-kindergarten. Applications are only completed online and the Daily front office does not have any part in the PreK lottery application process.
The pre-kindergarten program at Daily Elementary consists of two classes of 22 students. Students must qualify for the program by meeting one of several possible criteria such as Limited English or Economically Disadvantaged. Students must also be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2023.
Lottery priority is given to siblings of students currently enrolled (PreK-4th) at Daily Elementary. Next, the students living in our school zone will be included in the lottery. Due to the limited space in our pre-kindergarten program, we are unable to have any students out of our school zone apply.

Handbook Highlights
Early Arrival
We have several families who are dropping off their students outside school before supervision begins. Please DO NOT drop off your students at Daily BEFORE 7:15 am. If your child walks to school, please time their departure from home so that they do not arrive to school before 7:15 am. We do not have staff available to supervise students until 7:15 am.
It is NOT safe to drop off your students before supervision begins. Because there is no staff on duty, some of the students are making poor choices and students are getting hurt. Please remain in your car with your child in our carpool lane until the carpool lane begins at 7:05 am.

HISD to offer free COVID-19 testing for students and campus staff
Our goal in HISD is to foster a caring, joyful, and challenging learning experience for every student, every day. That’s why your school will provide free COVID-19 testing to all students, faculty, and staff in partnership with the Houston Health Department.
Testing is completely voluntary and requires parent/guardian consent first. Free testing puts our student’s health first, it allows us to maximize learning in school and promotes equity by ensuring every student has access to testing if they want it and if you, as their parent/guardian, provide consent.
Who will be tested? We will offer testing to everyone who consents - all students and staff - even if they don’t have symptoms of COVID-19.
How is the testing done? The COVID-19 testing is free, quick, and easy. Trained medical professionals will conduct testing with a short, shallow nasal swab.
Where and when is the testing done? Our school’s testing site will be in a room or area large enough to accommodate an organized flow to testers in and out of the space. Testing will take place every two weeks. Test results will be available within 24-48 hours.
How can I be sure that my student’s information will be protected? Sharing of information about your student will only be done for public health purposes and in accordance with applicable law and policies protecting student privacy and the security of your student’s data.
We are asking you to:
Learn more about testing at www.HoustonISD.org/COVIDTestingFAQ
Complete the consent process by visiting this website: www.HoustonISD.org/COVIDtesting
Contact Fulgent if you need help completing the consent process at cshou@fulgentgenetics.com or call at 346-803-5828, Option 2.
We are extremely grateful to our families and staff who continue to show great flexibility and resilience as we work together to contain the spread of this virus.
COVID-19 Testing will be available for students and staff members at Daily Elementary on November 28 and December 12.
