Panther Digest
Prairie View Elementary - November 2023
Principal's Note
Dear Parents,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you who joined us for the VIP Lunch Week in October. Your presence added a special touch to our school community, and it was wonderful to see our students' faces light up.
The past few days have been filled with excitement and joy, from the Halloween parade to the class parties. Our 5th and 6th-grade students had a blast at Skateland, and High Interest Day today was a resounding success, thanks to the dedicated volunteers who made it all possible.
I'd like to extend my sincere appreciation to the parents who took the time to attend Parent-Teacher Conferences last week. These conferences are invaluable in ensuring your child's academic progress and well-being.
As we look ahead to November, I am eager to embrace the opportunities it brings and continue our journey of learning and growth. I am confident that it will be a great month for our school community.
Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in your child's education. Together, we can create a nurturing and enriching environment for our students.
Warm Regards,
Valerie Vos, Principal

School Counselor Note
Dear Families,
November is a great time of year to focus on gratitude and all the things we have to be thankful for. This month in SEL we will continue talking about bullying prevention, friendship, and accepting differences, but we will also turn our focus to gratitude. Each class will have the opportunity to do a gratitude read aloud with Mr. Christiansen.
Practicing gratitude every day, changes the wiring of our brains and helps us to have a more positive outlook and perspective. Getting in the habit of practicing gratitude is important in impacting our overall mental health! Using a journal, making a list, or having a daily discussion around gratitude are helpful tools to use to get into this habit.
So, what are you grateful for right now? Have this discussion as a family and see how many things you can come up with!

MONTH OF GIVING - COINS FOR KIDS
We are, once again, declaring November as Prairie View's Month of Giving. There are many opportunities for our staff and students to help out others in our community. One big way is through our annual Coins for Kids Drive being held November 6-17th. Prairie View is sponsoring the change drive for the Waukesha County Christmas Clearing. Students are encouraged to do chores around the house to earn some extra change for Coins for Kids.
More information will be sent home soon about this event!
WARM CLOTHES FOR RECESS
The weather is clearly changing. Please make sure that your children are dressed appropriately for outdoor recesses. This includes a warm coat, hat, gloves or mittens. Please remember to label all winter dress items with your child’s name.
PTO Meeting
A great way to learn more about Prairie View, connect with parents, and get involved is to attend a PTO meeting. The goal of the PTO is to support students and teachers as well as build a strong "school-family-community" connection.

Veteran's Day
Veteran’s Day is a nationally observed holiday in the United States that honors and pays tribute to all military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. For Veteran’s Day 2023, we would like to honor our PVES US Military Veterans and Active Military Service Members who are part of PVES family and friends. Please share your siblings, parents, grandparents, friends, and other family members who have served our country, so we can recognize them for their service. Complete the Google Form or scan QR Code by TUESDAY NOV. 7th.
Pictures can also be added to a Shared Google Photo Album or scan the QR Code. Please label the picture with the name of a Veteran and PVES student.
Veteran’s Day is observed on November 11th each year. On Friday November 10th - please have your child wear RED, WHITE, and BLUE to show our gratitude for the freedoms our Veterans defended for us.
PLEASE NOTE: Pictures and Veterans’ names will be part of a slideshow that will be posted to social media - if you DO NOT want your family member’s name or picture posted on Facebook - please let us know.

Speak Up, Speak Out Confidential Reporting System
MASD is proud to partner with the Wisconsin Department of Justice to use the Speak Up, Speak Out (SUSO) confidential reporting system. SUSO allows students and parents to report weapons, threats of violence, sexual harassment, threat of suicide, drugs, and any other activity that could potentially endanger students, staff, and property. By using SUSO, students and parents can help keep schools safe, and it’s completely confidential.
Tips can be reported in three ways:
Download the app from the Apple Store or Google Play to make reports from your smartphone
Call 1-800-MY-SUSO-1 (or 1-800-697-8761) to speak to a live, trained dispatcher.
