July 2021
The Celebration that COULD!
Although a global pandemic and torrential thunderstorms have tried to cancel our plans the past few years, we have found ways to adapt, whether it be via a virtual platform or a last-minute location change. We appreciate everyone's flexibility as plans were re-routed, for since we are so committed to this event, we would do anything not to cancel. Let's hope (fingers crossed) that next year's event can be planned with a little less existential drama!
The celebration was our first in-person event in over a year, and we are excited to have so many more to come this summer! Read below to see what we have planned during these summer months and how you can join us!
Quarterly Virtual Happy Hour: Fri, July 9th
Set aside this hour for you! Everyone is welcome: Moms, Dads, Professionals, Family, Friends! We get together quarterly to unwind at the end of the week and make some connections within our community using this casual format. We use the most recent Collaborative Blog Post to get the conversation going, but then we follow wherever it may lead. An RSVP is required, either on the Facebook Event Page ("interested" or "going") or via email if you're not on social media, and a zoom link is sent out a few hours before the call.
RSVP for our next call on Friday, July 9th at 8:00pm
And mark your calendars for the last 2021 date: Friday, Oct. 8th at 8:00pm

Kendra Scott Event: Sat, July 17th
Family Fun Baseball Game: Wed, Aug. 11th
We would love for C.I.T.Y. of Support to have a great showing that night. Together, we'll enjoy a family-friendly summer night out, watch some baseball, and connect with others in our C.I.T.Y!

Meet Ellie
"When Ellie was diagnosed with severe to profound hearing loss at one month old, we were shocked and scared. We'd never met a deaf person before and didn't know what to expect. She was fitted with hearing aids at 3 months old and we began Aural Rehab therapy through EI. At 9 months, she received her first cochlear implant and at 12 months her second. At one year, she added speech to her list of therapies and joined a Toddler Group for kids with hearing loss at Child's Voice when she turned 18 months old.
Ellie is currently 33 months old and doing phenomenal! Despite not being able to hear for her first year of life, she's caught up to her chronological age for speech and hitting expressive and receptive language targets for her age group. She's 100% oral/verbal, although we plan to add ASL to her communication. She's social and happy and will be transitioning into preschool in the fall! We couldn't be more proud of her grit, resilience, and fearless personality that makes her capable of being anything she aspires to be."
Accessible Support Collection
We need your help!! What would you want to see included in this special collection? Books for children, books for parents, adaptive toys/tools, media products, developmental skill kits...what is on your wishlist? Share your suggestions with us on this form.
This collection in Arlington Heights is our pilot site; however, with continued interest and funding, we would love to sponsor other accessibility collections in libraries all across Chicago.
Thank you, Birthday Buddies in June!
Parents: Sign your child up to participate in this fun, FREE program, and he/she will receive a handmade birthday card in the mail from another child who receives therapy services. What a fun way to make early social connections and celebrate everyone. Our Google Form is quick, easy, and secure, so take a minute, and register your child today!
Clinics/Schools: Reserve a month for patients/students at your site to participate, and have them help assemble our special DIY birthday cards for anonymous peers! These projects encourage social connections and also address important therapeutic skills. We have a
