SLMS Titan News
Week #28 - March 7, 2022
Greetings SLMS Parents, Guardians, Students, and Staff,
We have almost reached Spring Break! Just one more week--an important week in terms of academics--until everyone gets a needed and deserved week away. This Friday, March 11, which is the last instructional day before the week-long Spring Break, is also the end of the Term 3 (T3) grading period. T3 report cards will be viewable in the afternoon of Tuesday, March 22. School resumes after Spring Break on Monday, March 21.
We hope everyone will make it out to our annual iFest (International Festival) this Tuesday, March 8, from 6:00-8:00 PM. iFest has served as our Spring Open House for many years, and it is one of our most popular and well-attended events. Student-led country displays, along with our combined band and orchestra students, creating the SLMS Symphony, and our Kickstart program will be displaying their talents. And, as is always popular, the Chinese Dragon will make its annual appearance to end our Open House. I am really looking forward to Tuesday, and so should you!
PROUD PRINCIPAL MOMENTS - I wanted to share a couple of events that happened this past week that made me especially proud to be your child's principal.
- Our seventh graders took a field trip to the James Reese CTE Center on Wednesday, and they represented our school so well! They were engaged and asked questions, and they demonstrated a level of maturity away from campus that makes us especially proud of them. They were great ambassadors for our school!
- The Black Box Theatre production of A Wrinkle in Time was absolutely fantastic! I attended on Friday evening, and though I have always known that SLMS has super talented students, this production was on a WHOLE OTHER LEVEL. Aside from being their inaugural series of performances in their new black box space, the quality of acting and the sophistication of the technical elements of the production were on a level I have not experienced for a play since becoming principal at SLMS in 2016. I am so proud of the cast and crew of this student-led production, as well as of their teacher, Mrs. Kelley!
- We had our future Titans (5th graders) visit the campus on Monday and Thursday last week, and the student performances and overall "vibe" on our campus were awesome. The fifth graders got a good taste of what being in middle school is like.
I am also looking forward to attending the prelims and finals events for our track teams this week. There is a lot of talent on our teams, and I know we are going to do very well! Monday's prelims for boys will be at Clements HS, and prelims for girls will be at Ridge Point HS. Wednesday's finals will be at Dulles HS.

SLMS School Report Card
Please visit this link to view the 2020-21 state and federal report cards for SLMS. This information was also emailed to SLMS parents on February 26.
Immunizations for Current Sixth Graders and Readiness for Seventh Grade
Your sixth-grade child did or will receive the TDAP and the Meningitis vaccines at their 11-year-old check-up. If they have had these vaccines, please provide proof of this to the clinic when your child gets them. These are the required shots for seventh grade and providing them as soon as you get them will keep your child compliant. and be one less thing for you to do in preparation for seventh grade. You may email it to Nurse Patel at Shetal.Patel@fortbendisd.com or fax it to (281) 327-8745.
Our experience has been that some parents wait until the last possible minute to be in compliance with these immunization requirements. Please help us help your child be ready for next year, as it will approach faster than you think!
Safety Reminders for Vehicle Traffic During Arrival and Dismissal
Safety is important during arrival and dismissal each day. Some things we continue to notice that we want to bring to your attention include:
- Drivers on cell phones/devices while in the car rider line
- Students entering/exiting vehicles along Seventh Street instead of in the circle drive
- Students entering/exiting vehicles in parking lots on either side of the building instead of in the circle drive
- Students entering/exiting vehicles on the drivers' side rather than the passenger side
- Drivers turning left out of the circle drive (it's a posted no left turn during school zone hours)
- Speeding in the school zone and driving too fast in the car rider line
- Parents and students crossing Seventh Street in places other than the crosswalk monitored by our crossing guard
Please help us help you and your children (and our staff) to remain safe by being mindful of these concerns during arrival and dismissal.
