Emergency Cards - Annual Update Required

Each year, families are asked to verify and update their emergency card and digital forms online via the Parent Portal of PowerSchool. The district has streamlined this process so that you are verifying current info and only updating new/changed information. The district will have the Portal open for updates from Saturday, 8/7 at 9am through Friday, 8/20 at 5pm. More info about Emergency Cards can be found here.

New parents and parents without accounts will get an email from the district with their account set up info on Friday, 8/6 at 4pm. If you have misplaced your account access information, you can call the LHS office on/after Monday, 8/9 between 8am-3pm (916 645 6360) for support.

Students will not be able to pick up their schedule, chromebook or textbooks until their online paperwork is complete. If you do not have access to a computer at home, come to the office the week of 8/9 or the week of 8/16 (during materials pick up!) and we can arrange for you to complete the forms on one of our computers.

If for some reason, you are absolutely unable to complete the forms online before school starts, schedules will be visible on Schoology and in PowerSchool on Wed., 8/18 at 3pm so students know where to report to class.

Stay tuned for more information! (updated 7/23/21)

LHS Student Handbook

We have reviewed and revised our handbook for the 21/22 year. You can find the handbook here and on our website (lhs.wpsud.org) > Our School > Student Handbook. We are working on a Spanish Language version and will post it as soon as it's finished!

There is a 'clickable' table of contents that should make it easier to navigate. Please review the handbook so you know what to expect at LHS. For returning Zebras, there have been policy updates in the locker, dance policy and dress code sections that are worth noting, too! (added 8/14)

Schedule/Textbook/Chromebook Pick Up

We are still making final adjustments to schedules. Students can pick up their schedules, textbooks and chromebooks on/after the following dates/times:

  • Frosh: Monday, 8/16 at 8am
  • Sophomores: Monday, 8/16 at 12 pm
  • Juniors: Tuesday, 8/17 at 8am
  • Seniors: Wednesday, 8/18 at 8am

We have chromebooks for ALL students. Students will be expected to bring their charged device daily to school. Students can bring their own device, if they chose.

Students will pick up schedules, textbooks and chromebooks from the library. Students will enter at the BACK of the library (the door facing the New/Pence/Big gym) and will exit with their materials out of the main entrance that faces the administration building.

Other services that are open next week:

  • We'll have student leaders available in the library on Monday all day to give tours to students.
  • The gym foyer is also open for school photos - Monday and Tuesday from 8-3 (lunch from 12-1) and Wednesday from 12-3
  • Our PE team will be selling PE clothes in the gym foyer on Monday from 8-10 and 1-3.

Schedule Changes

Our counselors will NOT be available on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday to meet with students or parents about schedule changes. If a student requires a schedule change, please use this link. Please note that:

  • The form is open until 9/1
  • Changing your schedule is a request, not a guarantee.
  • Schedule changes are subject to availability and the rearrangement of your schedule.
  • Requests for specific teachers or a certain order of classes CANNOT be accommodated.
  • All changes require parent/guardian permission.

Overview of the First Two Days!

We are planning fun activities, a guest speaker, a rally, a BBQ and more for the first two days of school (Th., 8/19 and Fri., 8/20). Students will attend school from 8am-3pm and will spend about 45 minutes in each class.

On Thursday, you'll attend periods 1, 3, 5 and 7 and on Friday, you'll attend periods 2, 4, 6 and 8. You will meet your teachers, get a sense of the year, and to work on building relationships with teachers and classmates. You do not need to bring anything to school the first two days other than lunch for Thursday.

On Thursday, 8/19, you will go to your Advisory class to start the day - it's called "Advisory" on your schedule, but we've renamed it HERD TIME internally! :) (updated 8/14)

Purchasing PE Clothes

Students who are taking PE will need to dress out for PE class. Families have choices when it comes to PE clothes:

Our PE department sells:

- LHS PE dry fit shirt and shorts set - $30 for the set

- LHS PE cotton shirts - sold at a discount; limited supply available

Students also have the choice to bring their own PE clothes from home; the shorts must be solid black and the t-shirt must be solid royal blue. (updated 8/15)

For the cooler months, sweatshirts and sweatpants are optional and may be of any color.

Our PE team will be selling PE clothes on Monday, 8/16 from 8-10am and 1-3pm in the foyer of the new/big gym (Pence Gym). PE clothes can be purchased with cash or check (payable to LHS). Students can also buy PE clothes directly from their teacher in the first few days of the school year with cash or check. Student will start dressing out for PE on Wednesday, 8/25. (added 7/27)

COVID Update

The district's updated safety protocols can be found online here. It's important to note that we will be enforcing masking in classrooms in order to minimize quarantine of our students. There is an excellent flow chart on the last page of the protocols that will help you understand how the quarantine process will work this year (it's different than last year!) (updated 8/14)

AB 104

You may have heard about AB 104, and the provision that gives parents/guardians/educational rights holders the opportunity to convert student grades from the 2020-21 year from letter grades to Pass/No Pass grades. This law was signed on July 1, 2021 by Governor Newsom and is designed to offer learning recovery options for students who struggled with low grades resulting from the pandemic.

More information about this, along with the form used to request a grade adjustment will be coming out from WPUSD on/around August 16th. There is a 15 day window established by the state to submit a change request to the school. Be watching for an email from the district via ParentSquare with the details. (added 8/4/21)

Schedules & Lunch

You can find our bell schedules and odd/even schedules online here!

Also, we WILL be serving lunch on campus. The plan is to offer a hot lunch, grab and go lunch, and ala cart options. The best news is that many of these options will be FREE for all students this year. More info about lunch is coming in the coming weeks! Juniors and Seniors will have off campus lunch privileges if they meet the criteria - they can pick up a off campus lunch permission slip request form when they take their school picture and at schedule pick up! (update 8/14)

Avoid the main parking lot!

First Home Game

Our first home football game is on Friday, 8/20 v. Del Oro! JV kicks off at 5pm and Varsity at 7 pm. LHS Students are invited to this game free of charge as long as they can show proof of enrollment by bringing their schedule or showing their schoology page on their personal cell phone. All other guests are $7 for adults and $5 for students (non LHS) and seniors.

Also - we are in the running for "Game of Week" with KCRA - vote for LHS v. Del Oro here!

We are very hopeful that we'll be able to run the game with spectators and without masks or social distancing being required. If that changes, we'll be sure to let you know! (added 8/11)

School Photos!

Our school's photographer, Debbie Brown, will begin taking photos Thursday, 8/5 and will be almost daily through Wednesday, 8/18. Here is the email that went home on 8/4 at 9am with ALL the details about school photos. Here is the order form for school pictures - you must bring it on your picture day to secure this discounted pricing! Order forms are also available at the picture check in table! (updated 8/14)

2020-21 Yearbooks

It hurts our hearts, but we are STILL waiting for delivery of our 2020-21 yearbooks. There are production delays with our printer that are out of our (and their!) control. We will get them out ASAP once we have them in hand. We are terribly sorry for the delay but appreciate your patience!!!

Quarter One, 2021 Probationary Athletics Policy

We recognize that the 2020-21 school year was challenging for most students. Across our school, grades were significantly lower than normal. As a result, LHS and TBHS plan to institute a one quarter probationary period for student athletes for the first quarter of 2021 only.

Who does this apply to: Students who plan to play sports in quarter 1 (Q1) of 2021 (cheer, dance, football, girls volleyball, girls golf, girls tennis or cross country)

REMINDER: Students - if you are struggling with your grades, you are encouraged to work with your teacher to catch up on work and/or to participate in our LHS tutoring program for support with homework or test preparation.
