If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out directly to your child's teacher.
As Quarter 3 begins with 7th and 8th graders in new Electives, students in Mr. Koneval's class get to know each other while practicing their conversation skills of listening, questioning, and interviewing.
PTO MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY
Our February PTO meeting will take place this Wednesday, February 7, at 6:00pm in the Media Center. We will be planning for our upcoming bake sale and winter dance. Mr. Brinks will be providing updates on this year's cell phone policy, snow days, staff professional learning, school of character work, and parent survey information. We hope you can join us!
Help Smith Support ON MY OWN This Week
This week is Activist Week at Troy High. Each year Troy High selects a local organization to fundraise for and support by hosting a variety of activities during the week. This year, Smith is getting involved! On Thursday, not only is Troy High going to be participating in a Coin Stall event, but we will be at Smith as well. Students can bring in donations to the class of their choice and every $1 donated will "stall" the class for 1 minute! We hope to raise a lot of money and have a lot of fun this Thursday!
You can also support On My Own by participating in eating out at the participating restaurants found below or by taking your family to the variety of family-friendly evening activities hosted by Troy High.
Thank you for your support!
CONGRATULATIONS!
Earlier this mont, Mrs. Casko was recognized by the Michigan VFW as a Teacher of the Year Awardee for all her work providing opportunities for students to hear from our veterans, learn about our nation's history, and fundraise to support VFW programs such as Honor Flights. Thank you, Mrs. Casko, for bringing these experiences to Smith and congratulations, it is well deserved!
GEOGRAPHY, HISTORY, and SCIENCE BEES
The Social Studies and parts of the Science Department participated in the Geography, History, and Science Bees in December and January. We had 80% of our students qualify for the regional competition. This is outstanding and so exciting. We are in the process of distributing a handout sharing if your child qualified along with some registration details. Students are welcome to participate in any Bee that they qualified for. For students interested in competing, we offer a History Club on Tuesdays from 3:00 - 4:00pm in Room 21 where we practice past question sets and prepare for the regional and national competitions. All are welcome to come and participate.
We are proud to be once again hosting the Michigan Regional Finals here at Smith. We are hoping to have 100+ students participating on April 20. The registration deadline is April 5. Students can reach out to their Social Studies or Science teachers if they have more questions.
Here is the registration link for those interested in participating:
