Writer's Workshop/Content/Reader's Workshop:
ANCIENT EGYPT INTEGRATED UNIT
This week we began our study of Ancient Egypt. We began conversations with understanding what Ancient Civilizations are and why they are important to study. We learned the importance of the Nile River and how it was the "lifeblood" of the Egyptians during this ancient time. Our unit focuses around the book Who Was King Tut, but includes writing activities, additional close reading passages, and social studies standards as well.
The students learned about "A Day in the Life of King Tut" and discovered that it might not have been too bad to be a 10-year-old King! Although...we are learning there are many mysteries surrounding these times and a LOT of conflict!
MATH SPOTLIGHT STRATEGY
This week's SPOTLIGHT STRATEGY is...CARD GAMES!
REMINDERS & REQUESTS:
CHAPERONES: The two lucky "winners" to chaperone our trip to the Children's Theater are Sandra Dickie and Heather Kelly. Unfortunately, our next field trip to the Fun Zone does NOT require chaperones (we like the kids to focus on their friends on this trip!)...HOWEVER, there is another opportunity for helping...
VOLUNTEERS: Minute to Win It!! On June 1st the Third Graders will be hosting Minute to Win It activities. I will need several volunteers to make this a successful day. If you are available to help, please let me know. The time "slots" are: 8:15-9:15, 10:15-11:15, or 12:30-1:15. I will need 4 volunteers for each time slot.
Reading Baseball LOG: This month is "Spring Reading Training"! Although we are busy during the evenings with sports and extra-fun stuff, it is the PERFECT time to continue to build reading stamina which will help maintain growth during the summer months. Challenge yourself to read 30 minutes per night. There are a lot of options for earning "points" including completing some reading responses. YOU CAN DO IT!
