Area Ag Lenders Tightening Up on Loans According To Survey

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – At the Siouxland Agricultural Lenders Seminar on November 1st, we surveyed the participants on what they were seeing in their ag loan portfolios in light of the current ag economy. The 58 attendees were from five states represented 20 lending institutions and 13 other ag industries. More importantly they represented service to over 500 dairies, 317,725 milking cows and 108,400 acres producing feed for those cows.
Last year we asked them to identify the number one economic issue affecting their dairy clients and the response was low milk prices and labor issues. In this the fourth year of economic stresses, it was no surprise that the overwhelming concerns were low milk prices and cash flow issues.
Another second year question was what percentage of their clientele were going to expand operations, exit dairying or add robotic milkers in the next five years. Read more...

“Farming in Tough Times” Meeting to be held December 7

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — University of Minnesota Extension will host “Farming in Tough Times,” an educational meeting for area agricultural producers who may find themselves confronting various challenges as a result of the economic state of agriculture. The workshop will be held on Friday, December 7 at ElmerZ Restaurant and Event Center, located at 1225 Timberlane Drive, Sauk Centre, MN. The workshop will run from 10:30am-2:30pm, with registration starting at 10:00am. This meeting is offered free of charge and includes lunch.
This event will focus on farm stress, mental well-being, and building resiliency. The agenda will feature a several engaging speakers and topic experts. The keynote speaker for the day will be Dennis Hoiberg, an organizational consultant from Australia. Dennis has more than 35 years’ experience in regional and rural communities helping them cope with change – at the personal, family, business and community level. To register today....
