What's happening at #woodmontmiddlecool
August 28th Edition
Greetings, Wildcat Families!
Parents and Guardians, we have updated our Back-to-School forms to include important medical information for our school nurse to eliminate the need for paper forms to be sent to/from school. We are asking ALL FAMILIES to complete this form, even if you completed the forms at Back-to-School Night, so that our school nurse will have access to this important information. Thank you for helping keep our records up to date in case we needed to get in touch with you during an emergency. Please complete by this Friday, September 8th 2023.
Last week, your child brought home their Individual Score Report (ISR). Please take time to sit down with your child and review this report. They should be able to explain their scores to you, but you can access slides 62-74 of our Level Up LIFT Lessons for additional information and to help guide your conversations. Please let us know if you have any questions about your child's scores! We will set growth goals with your student and communicate progress toward their goals throughout the year.

Woodmont High Football Policy
As we approach the first Varsity football game of the season, scheduled for this coming Friday, I wanted to take a moment to communicate an important policy that will ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all attendees. In line with our commitment to safety and creating a positive environment, Woodmont High has implemented a policy for middle school students attending Woodmont Home Football Games. To be admitted into the games, middle school students must be accompanied by a paying adult and have their school identification with them.
By informing our students and families about this policy, we aim to ensure that everyone is well-informed and can make the necessary arrangements to attend the game with ease. We appreciate your support in reinforcing this policy and helping us maintain a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all attendees.
Thank you for your dedication to our school community, and we look forward to seeing you at the game on Friday.
Chromebook Charger Fees
Notifications are currently being sent out via Backpack to parents of students with unpaid Chromebook charger fees. These fees should have been resolved by last Friday. Today, Monday, August 21st, we will collect the chargers of students with unpaid fees. These students will need to find an alternative charging source for their device. If students report to class with an uncharged Chromebook, they will be assigned an alternative paper/pencil assignment.
Charger fees are $31 and can be paid with cash or check at the media center, or by credit/debit via the “School Store” icon on our website which will direct you to https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/getmain?requestAction=home.
Thank you for your prompt attention to these fees. These funds are needed to purchase chargers for our newly enrolled students.
PSAT for 8th graders
8th Graders will have the opportunity to take the PSAT on October 18th during the regular school day. The PSAT is the practice version of the SAT, which is a college readiness assessment. Colleges use these tests to determine how prepared a student is for the college workload. Research shows that taking this type of test more than once helps to increase the score. To sign-up, students should see Ms. Johnson in the 8th grade hallway between August 21st and September 1st. The fee to take the PSAT is $13.16, cash (exact change) or check made out to Woodmont Middle School. Anyone with questions about the PSAT should contact Ms. Johnson: lrjohnson@greenville.k12.sc.us
Volleyball Update
Lady Wildcats Volleyball take on Hughes TONIGHT at 5:30 PM at home! Come out and support our team!

HERE is our full schedule!
FREE MEALS @ WMS IN 23-24!
The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) is a school meal funding option from USDA that enables a school to provide free meals to all students, without the necessity of completing applications for individual eligibility.
This year, CEP in South Carolina has expanded to include students who receive Medicaid benefits. The expansion of the CEP program means that all students in our school will receive free lunch during the 2023-24 school year. We will also continue to offer free breakfast daily. You do not need to take any action to qualify for the free meals.
Our school is eligible to remain in the program through at least the 2026-27 school year.
WMS Houses & LiveSchool Parent Accounts
Parents, in addition to being a Woodmont Wildcat, your child will also belong to one of 4 Houses that are unique to our school....Oncilla, Serval, Amur, or Caracal.
The link below will take you to an overview of our House system and show you how our new LiveSchool platform will play a HUGE part in the spirit of House competition AND keeping you even more in the loop at home.
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/12ZQR3if9opA2_gFTH12lKHQUm6SCJBMzOP1VHXst4K0/edit?usp=sharing
Your child will be given information to bring home on how to set up your parent account (including 2 unique codes specific to YOUR child). After you set up an account, you can access the platform whenever you want...but we know how busy you are! You can also opt to automatically receive a recap email each week. We hope you will choose to partner with us to help bring Woodmont Middle to a whole new level!
CELL PHONES OUT OF SIGHT!!!
Parents, we need your help. Please talk with your child about responsible and ethical use of technology. It is a school rule that cellular devices and wireless earbuds remain out of sight (preferably stored in bookbags) while in the school building. Please note, students who violate this policy will be assigned progressive consequences by an admnistrator.
Our school phone lines are always available for two-way communication between students and parents. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and effective learning environment. Please contact administration if you have any questions.
Morning Arrival
Our doors open at 7:30 a.m. Please do not drop off students before that time, as no supervision is available. In order to keep a long line from forming, please PULL ALL THE WAY DOWN before unloading your child.
Breakfast is provided FREE OF CHARGE to all students. Breakfast for car riders closes at 8:15 a.m. Breakfast for bus riders extends until the last bus arrives. All students should arrive in their 1st period classroom before 8:30 a.m. to be counted present and on time for the day.
We have a SINGLE LINE drop-off. Once our doors open at 7:30, we do our best to quickly clear the line by having parents PULL ALL THE WAY DOWN before unloading their child. It does take a few minutes when there is heavy traffic. Parents, I know mornings are a busy time for us all, and many of you head to work after dropping off your child. However, please note that parents are not allowed to "skip the line" in morning drop-off. This creates a safety hazard for your child!
If you need to ensure drop-off right at 7:30, please arrive by 7:15 so you can be at/toward the front of the line.
Afternoon Dismissal
Afternoon Dismissal: Parents who pick up their child each day, please observe the following procedures:
- Form double lines while waiting for dismissal.
- Display your dismissal number so we get your child into the queue.
- The use of cell phones while the line is moving is prohibited.
- MERGE at the cones, taking turns from each line (one from right, one from left, etc.). Be courteous.
- PULL ALL THE WAY FORWARD before stopping and loading your child.
- Stress to your child to report to the carline as soon as their name is displayed and WATCH for their car. Pickups requiring extra time due to student delays will be asked to circle back through the carline.
Backpack Blessings
Backpack Blessings is a program that the Columbia Baptist Church organizes and provides to our Woodmont Middle School students. We are so thankful for their generosity! If your student is in need of school supplies, boxed lunch/dinners, hygiene products, or clothing, please fill out the Google Form Survey below. If you have specific needs or questions about this program, you may contact the 7th Grade Counselor, Mrs. Allen.

Directory Opt-Out
Federal laws require a school district to notify parents/guardians and eligible students (18 years and older) of their rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Pupils Protection of Rights Act (PPRA). The Information Assurance Office will be sending out the following mandatory notifications (FERPA Notification of Rights, Student Directory Information Notice, Notification of Rights under the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment), by Backpack email, on the first day of school (August 8) to all currently enrolled Greenville County Schools students. Thereafter, schools will provide these three mandatory notices to parents/guardians or eligible students enrolling from “out-of-district.” If a parent/guardian or eligible student chooses to opt out their student from the disclosure of “Directory Information,” schools will be responsible for having the parent/guardian or eligible student complete the Student Directory Information Opt-Out form.
