Update #14: 3.16.15
Dean's List
We love celebrating our Dean's List Superstars and acknowledging their academic achievement! On Wednesday, after our final Career Day speaker, President Buckley, Vice President Richards, and SUHSD Assistant Superintendent Hansen will recognize 15 MC students for earning a gpa of 3.3 or higher in their college classes. I'm especially proud of my advisory students who received this honor -- congratulations to Leslie, José, Madina! Check our Facebook page Wednesday afternoon for photos!
Progress Reports
Chris has sent these out to the professors; we are passing on the feedback as it is received to both students and parents.
Career Day
Our last Career Day is this Wednesday during our advisory period (12:30-1:30). Special thanks to Alison for organizing this series for all our students.
Also, on the same day, the college is holding Majors 2 Careers in the Grove. This event will allow students to meet with instructional and counseling staff members to find out about majors and what career paths those majors may lead to.
Juniors
We strongly encourage all juniors to prepare for college admissions by taking required entrance tests at the end of their junior year. There will be three opportunities to take these tests in the fall of senior year, as well.
Register online using the home school ID (Carlmont 050270, M-A 050170, Sequoia 052605, Woodside 053808).
Fee waivers are available at the home high school in the College and Career Center -- these not only waive the fees for the tests, but will also waive application fees for UC and CSU next year, so it is worth it to ask if you may qualify!
Be sure to remember SAT/ACT account login information, as it will be needed during the college application process.
Wondering which to take? The difference between the ACT and SAT and ACT vs SAT
We suggest the June test dates, as they fall after spring finals and before the summer session starts.
· To test on June 13th, registration deadline is May 8, 2015
· To test on May 2nd, registration deadline is April 6, 2015
There are practice tests in the CCR view folder; also check out Khan Academy SAT prep.
Seniors
Hit the road! Spring Break is a great time to check out colleges to which you've been admitted. Use this checklist to help plan a visit. Parents, check out these resources for helping your senior choose a college.
Most of the CSU campuses have Preview Days in April, as do the UCs.
Summer and fall registration
The summer class schedule is already posted on WebSchedule; the fall schedule should be posted in a week or so. I will begin meeting with students individually once we return from spring break to plan summer and fall classes.
Spring dates
Mar 22-28 -- Spring Break
May 25 -- Memorial Day
May 26-June 1 -- FINALS
May 28 -- End of the year recognition celebration!

Over the last few decades, Americans have turned college admissions into a stressful and occasionally devastating rite of passage, preceded by test prep, tutors, all kinds of rankings and a conviction among too many young people that their futures will be determined and their worth established by which schools say "yes" and which say "no."
That belief is wrong. And in Where You Go Is Not Who You’ll Be, Bruni explains why, giving students and their parents a new outlook on this brutal, deeply flawed competition and a path out of the anxiety that it provokes.
Frank Bruni has been an Op-Ed columnist for The New York Times since June 2011, focusing on a range of subjects including higher education.

Calling all middle and high school girls! If you are between 8-15 years old, or have a daughter, relative or friend that age, save the date and share this email! I will be hosting two FREE "When I Grow Up..." events in San Francisco and East Palo Alto (EPA see below) on March 28 in celebration of Women's History Month.
Whether you want to be the President of the United States, a congresswoman, a doctor, a rocket scientist or a police officer, this gathering will inspire you to make your dreams come true. You will hear from exceptional women who have broken down barriers and made history in their fields.
I hosted the very first of these events in 2012 and it was so inspiring and successful that we have made it an annual tradition in March. We are finalizing the speakers list and will share it with you on my website shortly. Space is limited, so sign up early!
