School District 57
From the Desk of the Superintendent

Friday, March 3, 2023
Dear D57 Families,
Today marks the end of Public Schools Week, a time to celebrate all of the wonderful public school teachers, specialists, administrators, board members, and parents/guardians and the incredible contributions they make to our students’ lives. In District 57, there is no shortage of people, events, and collaborations to celebrate. I want to thank you for your ongoing collaboration and commitment to making our school district the most innovative, inspiring, and inclusive school we can provide for our children. It’s this collaboration that fuels progress, and evidence of our progress is everywhere.
We had a good community turnout for both of last night’s events: the Lions Park Playground Open House and the District 57 Community Engagement Event. For those of you who weren’t able to attend the Lions Park Playground Open House Event, you can view the conceptual plan options here. There are three exciting concepts on the table! You can also access a survey at this link to provide feedback about which play structure and environment options you prefer. Completed surveys can be emailed to Ben Kutscheid, Planner/Landscape Architect at bkutscheid@mppd.org or you can reach him directly at 847-255-5380 ext. 108.
At last night’s Community Engagement Event, I had the opportunity to speak in greater detail about the results of last fall’s community survey followed by a robust Q&A between the community and the School Board. Of particular focus was the district’s need for full-day kindergarten and various potential capital improvements, including renovating/rebuilding Lincoln Middle School. If you were unable to attend, please know that there will be more events like last night’s to continue this important conversation.
Take a moment to read our recent D57 newsletter - it’s a wonderful reminder of the value of our district and the impact it’s having on the lives of our students. I deeply thank you for your ongoing partnership and commitment to the district. Have a wonderful weekend!
In the spirit of education,
Dr. Mary Gorr
