Director's Blurb

My Grandma Davis loved cooking, but she adored baking. Seeing people eat her sweets definitely made her heart happy. When my sister and I visited, we would frequently ask to make "paintbox" cookies. She would make sugar cookie dough, roll it out, and then use a simple circle biscuit cutter to make circle shapes of dough. The paint was made by thinning an egg yolk with several drops of water, and adding food coloring to tint. She kept her special food paint brushes in the junk drawer, tied with a ribbon (compared to those with a rubber band that could be used with water colors). We would sit at the kitchen table, each with our own cookie sheet of dough circles to paint our Picasso's on. My mother was always a "color in the line" kind of girl - but not my Grandma Davis! She did not care if we had brown puddle of mixed egg yolk on a cookie - it was all beautiful.

The Saturday before Valentine's Day, our granddaughter, Emma, came to visit for the day. I got out the heart shaped cutters and got to cutting. Emma did a great job of picking her colors and making purple and pink egg paint, and we settled in at the table to paint our cookie hearts. Hoping to be as easy going as my Grandma Davis, I even pulled out the sprinkles to add! Emma giggled when her grandpa painted a face, and the two loved splitting a cookie to sample fresh out of the oven. I discovered that I am the product of both my mother and grandma, as I began limiting the number of sprinkles piled on the cookie and then decided -- what would it matter? At least fifty percent will fall off!

I look forward to visiting with you this Spring!

WDS Director

Note from Pastor Christy (Westhampton UMC)

I hope that all WDS families sense the warm welcome we hold for you at Westhampton UMC. I always enjoy sharing in worship with you at our bi-monthly WDS Chapel services. If you have been able to attend, I hope you sensed the exciting way in which God is at work through this family of faith.

If you are not actively involved in another congregation, I invite you to join us anytime. We worship weekly at 11 AM in the Sanctuary. And there are Sunday School opportunities for all ages beginning at 9:45 AM - right in the same space you are familiar with at WDS! Below are some dates and times of upcoming opportunities we're excited to offer as we make our way through Lent, Holy Week, and Easter.

Palm Sunday [Sunday, March 25th at 11:00 AM]

Holy Thursday [March 29th at 6:30 PM]

Easter Sunday: Sunrise Service of Worship & Holy Communion at Hollywood Cemetery [April 1st at 7:00 AM]

Please let me know if you have any questions about Westhampton UMC. I am happy to chat in person, or respond to emails or phone calls! I hope to see you soon!
