ELA News and Updates
Katie Nicholls katie.nicholls@yorkville.k12.wi.us
This week in ELA, students continued reading about Culture and Belonging with the short story “Golden Glass.” They also continued to work toward a better understanding of verbals. With graduation in mind, as their last official writing assignment of the year, all students began writing a graduation speech. Every student will have the opportunity to present their speech in front of the 8th grade students with a possibility of reading their speech at graduation. I enjoyed the opportunity on Thursday to spend some time outside in nature with the students. It turned out to be a beautiful day. Continue to encourage your student to finish strong this school year.
Science News and Updates

Students did a lot of reviewing this week for their test on invertebrates. They took the test on Wednesday on Schoology. Students are also continuing their work on vertebrates by creating foldables for their notebooks that will be a good resource to study for the vertebrate test. We also completed the pre lab for the frog dissection. The frog dissection will be next week Monday and Tuesday. All grades are up to date. Please continue to check Skyward regularly.
Have a great weekend!

Intro to Algebra worked with polynomials. We reviewed like terms and integer rules and then added and subtracted polynomials. They also reviewed the distributive property and learned to multiply binomials by using a box of FOIL method. We are going to wrap up the year reviewing exponents and solving multi-step equations. All grades will be updated by Monday. Please check Skyward and encourage your son or daughter to complete and late or absent work. Have a great weekend.
Mrs. Niccolai
Algebra began their last unit this week. We began working with rational expression. A rational expression is an algebraic fraction where the numerator and denominator are polynomials. The first step was to simplify. This unit will reinforce factoring. The same fraction rules for multiply, dividing, adding, and subtracting will apply to these fractions. Adding these fractions are hard because there is much more involved in finding least common denominators and making equivalent fractions.
The year is winding down and we are going to try to finish this last unit with the time we have left. All papers will be graded this weekend and updated grades will be posted by Monday.
Please encourage your son or daughter to finish all late or absent work before the year is over.
Have a great weekend.
Mrs. Niccolai
Spanish News and Updates
Katy Morrow katy.morrow@yorkville.k12.wi.us
8th grade students have been finishing up their last unit-Las vacaciones, by learning and reviewing some of the most common verbs in the language. We have been asking each other,"Where are you going on vacation?" "Where have you went on vacation?" "What do you want to do on vacation?" and "What are you bringing on vacation?" Students are currently putting all the grammar and vocabulary of the unit together by creating a comic strip.
Physical Education & Health News and Updates
Amanda Peterson amanda.peterson@yorkville.k12.wi.us
This week the 8th graders only had one day of health due to the field trip. On Tuesday we did a growth mindset activity about learning how to lose and also discussed contraceptives. Next week we learn about the decision making model
This week the 8th graders played Gladiator Ball and a new game called “Capture the Ball.” The students received plenty of exercise on these two days and seemed to really enjoy the friendly competition. On Friday, the students participated in the Color-a-Thon!
Have a great weekend!
